I read that approximately 15% of club head speed is generated by the body while the remaining 85% is produced by your right triceps and right forearm.

Are there any biomechanics experts out there?

Which muscles contribute the most in generating club head speed?

What are the best exercises for developing these muscles?

I'm not a biomechanic expert..but those numbers sound grossly wrong..If it were true and i hit a ball 100 yards with my gap wedge..I should be able to hit 85 yards just using my right tricep and right forearm..where did you get those numbers from..:D

Bush said 85% from the right shoulder.

I think this is closer...but that right shoulder gets a lot of its power from the LEGS, HIPS, and STOMACH muscles.

Next Project:

I will now vigorously workout only my right shoulder so that it becomes the size of a cantelope.

Maybe mandrin can say otherwise, but to my calculations, 3 x the size of my shouler = me hitting it 800 yards.

And I will pick up all the women.

they still use their torsos...

You would use every available muscle than can contruibute. Would you high jump without using your arms?

Cross your arms across your chest. Put a tennis ball on top of your right shoulder (hold it there with you left hand). Now throw the ball off your shoulder.

Next turn sideways without turning the shoulder (you can immobilze by putting against a door jamb) throw the ball sidearm with your arm, forearm and wrist.

No comparison.

Address a ball at "Impact Fix". Hit it using only your arms w/o moving your torso. Next hit it by keeping your arms "locked" and let them move only as your torso pivots (ie no wrist cock or arm bend). No comparison.

welllllllllll....

The following is a link to the web page:-

Link to non-Manzella site deleted to comply with http://www.brianmanzella.com/forum/showpost.php?p=85613&postcount=1

You can access other interesting articles by clicking "Ask The Professor" at the bottom of that web page.

...even if you buy that the COM equations are appropriate to be used, the m1 is the mass of the clubhead, not the mass of the golfer...i mean do you really think that all 180 lbs of the golfer is moving at 100 mph!?
