Problem opening clubface on the downswing

I have been using the soft draw pattern for a couple months now and its been up and down. My problem is I get to the top fine but on the downswing I'm dropping my right elbow and rotating my right forearm clockwise. Which is opening the face. At least this is what it feels like to me. I have done this for a long time so that what I'm thinking it is.

So I dont know how to really correct it, Im figuring that I'm just under plane but cant get on top of it at all. Thanks It is a good pattern when its on its great when its off, its push and push fade city.

When I focus on the toss it normally ends up left. But when should you start the toss? My right hand opens so much that its hard to do the toss with out a snap hook involved.

How far across the line are you and how high is your right elbow at the top? If you overdo the backswing, you can have the problems you're experiencing.

That may actually be what the problem is. I get pretty far across. But my right elbow drops hard to my right side which rotates the forearm and opens the clubface. I have fought a push every since I started playing. And I always read to drop your right elbow but but I think I went to far.

Just an update and a question. I played this morning focusing more on the toss but in the process I noticed that in my backswing my right elbow was staying close to my body but still higher than my left.

So I started letting my right elbow feel more of a lawn mower pull type motion and wow no more pushes. Mostly high draws. So the question is, should that be the feeling of the right elbow? Feels disconnected from the body early in the backswing.

could you elaborate more?

When you are across the line, you need to pull the power package into place during the downswing. Some people will pull it too much and get underplane and under the sweetspot. From the OP's description, it sounded to me like this might have been the case.

The right elbow should separate from the body. It sounds like you found a good thought for your swing, and I would continue using it as long as it works.

I'm getting very underplane. Played yesterday and it wasn't pretty. Alot of push fades. Only way I could hit it decent was to try and feel like I'm coming the top of it and swing more left. Then I hit some pulls. I'm just not rotating the club through impact I guess. Getting it to much open.

Try doing just enough of the backswing to get BARELY across the line. See if that helps.

You might also need some tumble, but try changing the backswing first.

What exactly is the tumble? Is it rotating the left arm in the downswings?

Basically, the tumble is the clubhead going from inside the hands to outside the hands during the downswing. The clubface turns toward the ball and the left arm flying wedge rotates more closed.

To add some tumble to your downswing, stay closed in the transition with a low left shoulder, keep the hands in as they work down, and turn the sweetspot toward the ball.

Try this with both a slightly across the line backswing and an exaggerated SD backswing, and I think you'll find your answer in there somewhere.
