It occured to me yesterday practicing chipping and short pitches that I really was not maintaining the right wrist bend very well through impact. The left wrist was flat, but I wasn't getting solid consistent contact because the period through which it was flat and online to the ball was very short.
I started thinking what might provide a fix in my technique. I experimented with setting up with a punch elbow position (right arm), and flat left wrist. The chipping motion was now a simple back and through motion. Short pitches could also be achieved from the same position. It was substantially easier than a "both arms straight, maintain the lower case y" technique.
Is this "punch elbow position for short shots" a good idea? Seems to work pretty good. Perhaps it works for me because it more closely mirrors my full swing impact position (just a guess at this point)?
Anyways, thought I would share. Always up for learning new short game shots.
