I think i know the answer but i would like to pose the question to those that know more about plane shifts than i do:

Does it matter WHEN you shift from the eblow plane to the TSP in the backswing?

--------

I noticed from some swing sequences compared to my own that i shift from the elbow plane to the TSP much faster in the backswing than if i followed the elbow plane as far back in the backswing and then shifted.

Pros/Cons/Opinions/Comments?

Thanks

Shift

Depends when the right elbow folds and brings the shaft to the turned shoulder plane ---- Classically, it would begin when the clubshaft reaches waist height (page 118 in the book, 8-5/8-6)

I am not sure the shaft is a valid check point since the wrist cock has an effect on when the shaft is at parallel.

The right forearm maybe a better reference point.

When this was described to me back in the 60s it was that when your hands got to waist high you shifted.

Probably you approach to the ball in the downstroke would give a good indication where the shift should be. This would definitely vary between golfers but one would expect it to be the same point in the backstroke and downstroke.

So if i bend the right arm soon the shift will occur sooner than if i bent it later and rode the elbow plane as deep as it goes.

Cool, that's bascially what i thought. I know for me that bending the right arm that late in the swing tends to make my swing too flat which leads to problems. That is why i fold it sooner and shift sooner in the backstroke.

SHift _ More Info

The shaft "is" the refernce point when measuring the shift Plane Angles
Plane Angles are "clubshaft Control" A golfer can swing back to waist height - cock his wrist and he will be on the same plane angle --- Right elbow fold will do the shifting -----
