I swing too far to the right with an open clubface. mostly because i have a flatter backswing. should i concetrate on just trying to square it up ala never slice again ,turning the club off plane? that gives me big hooks. or should incorporate some of never slice again with the never hook again pattern up the wall down the wall with the clubface turning?would swinging more left solve the open face issues? basically i swing too flat going back, swing too far right down and through and dont square it up real well which leads to more problems flipping etc. what should i do?

You hook it a bunch but think you have open-clubface issues?

Can you take leading edge divots?

Have you done work with twistaway? Can you draw it with Nsa minus the full roll?

when i employ the twist away i can hook it at will. im swinging too far right, when i get the clubface more square i hook, my question is do i employ twistaway with swinging left?

D-PLANE IS THE ANSWER

RB,
As I have been really working to understand the D-plane and reading the physics of golf. The answer lie's with in it. As in NHA the D-plane chapter the cure for the hooks is that you have to get the swing plane and the normal to the club face angle to match more going toward the target. To get that vertical plane that we all like to see. As was said in that chapter ;if we swing way out to the right and the face is open or closed then the ball leaves 85% toward that direction of the face and keeps going that way (left or right).
(EX):Swing way out to the right with an open to that swing path clubface then you get a ball that starts right and keeps going that way ( SOME would call it a push fade not me as I'm understanding better ball flight rules). So then if you swing way right with a closed to that swing path club face you would get a ball that starts left and keeps going further left ( some would call it a pull hook but again not me) We all have to really learn to truely trace a straight plane line. I need all kinds of help in the practical application but mentally I am starting to understand it better and I have been working hard on it in my golf swing. It works

I hope that helps.
See the ball flight and where the ball starts and then where it turns minus any effects of cross wind and you can pretty much work on it from there with the info you get from this site and the D-plane info. Hope that helps:)

So you can hook it at will when you are doing NSA?

Ryan have you tried NHA and really gotten the fade down-pat?

SD?

I was like that for a while.

Never used to get how people could fade it with the clubface pointing a lot to the sky at the top of the swing.

Using more twistaway still can allow me to hit draws and hooks easier when I want.

But you probably should be able to hit fades with a lot of twistaway in the backswing.

I never could until I really learned to fade it with NHA.....

...and also got more bent over (but still with some axis tilt at address), with more angle between my left arm and clubshaft.

The setup alone helped my path and also delayed my release. (more wristcock) I'd be more apt to hook it (using lots of twistaway) if I setup with very little wrist cock like Moe Norman.
