Quick Question On Setting Up To "Work The Ball"

You always hear people say that:

-if you want to fade it: setup on the right side of the tee

-if you want to draw it: setup on the left side of the tee

...

Am I the only guy who does it the opposite way? (at least a lot of the time)

In certain situations, I'm not comfortable knowing that if I hit it straight or double-cross it the ball is going 100 yards into the bush.

If you're looking to play a "fade" and tee off on the left side of the tee box, perhaps you're actually plaiyng a push? You sure it's a fade?

Not to say you can't set up on the left side of the tee box. This question just came to mind.

Yes a fade lia.

I guess some of this depends on the hole though eh.

I guess my main point is that I just don't like to aim at the bush.

Man.......I have had it up to *here* with you guys...

I need to sleep off all this frustration.....

I definitely hit from the side I'm trying to work it towards. For me, there's something about having the ball work so far "away" from me that feels uncomfortable. Hitting a fade from the left side of the tee to the right side of the fairway just feels really uncomfortable, too much distance to travel, feels like the ball would hit the ground and roll out sideways.

I understand what you are saying about the double-cross, but why would hitting it straight put you in the bush?

In my case, if I want to hit a fade I line up on the right side of the tee and aim for the left edge of the fairway. If I hit it straight I ought to end up right at the left edge of the fairway. So if the 'miss hit' is a straight ball, I don't see a problem.

Now, if you double cross it, then you are right: that angle will leave you way, way into the weeds.

My own worry would be that I would just not have enough fairway to work with if I lined up on the left when hitting a fade (or right when hitting a hook).

I wonder if perhaps you aren't moving the ball very far and are therefore likely for a 'worked shot' to either go straight or move only a little bit.

On my home course, on the holes where you have to work it, you *really* have to move the ball from side to side.

Im one of the few around my area that plays with a square stance. I sometimes have someone say "fade" or "draw" on my takeaway to feel the shot. Most of the time i play from the middle of the teebox. Reason: unless you need to lee trevino a fade or hard draw, middle of the teebox is fine (again unless there is a hole like #10 at Augusta that requires a hard draw).
The challenge where I play is to find a leval spot on the tee!

If I try to hit a cut and tee it up on the right,I invariably start it down the right center and fade into the right rough. If I tee it up on the left and aim strait down the left side and try to hit a fade, I usually hit a nice fade. For a draw,if I go to left side and try to draw it from right to left down the fairway, I hit the prettiest strait shot right in the trees in the right rough u ever saw.

Well.........it's moreso on certain holes I guess...........but it has just been something that I have found I'm more comfortable with. ("suits my eye" I suppose)

i.e. esp. if you know a straight ball or a bit of a miss the other way is gonna put you in trouble.

It's just something that I do and I wondered how much it was against the norm. BTW I think a lot of the questions I ask are too general lol.......oh well though. I just put it in writing.

Maybe I should work on "working it." (not on the dance floor)
