Rant: Golf club manufacturers

Why do these *Knuckleheads* continuously produce closed face Woods, Drivers! I feel like I have to search every pro shopstore in my County (State) to find a straight faced one!
I think the argument that some people don't know what a straight faced clubhead alignment is, is valid!
Wish I was a tour Pro .. " Please sir, I want a 'straight' faced one'
DOH!

Ya man I feel your pain.

Those closed-faced drivers hurt my eyes- bad.

Look for a Taylormade Tour driver off eBay or something....or a Launcher or G2.

Hover. Problem solved.

What does that solve? A closed face driver is still a closed face driver no matter what you do.

BigBad...find a clubmaker that will bend it open for you. Try to find the squarest one you can find and have a competent clubmaker bend it open for you.

OR

Do yourself a favor and look into QUALITY component woods.

SMT made a limited qty of heads that are 1 degree open. Go to one of their distributors such as myostrich golf. http://www.myostrichgolf.com/clubmakers/product_info.php?products_id=784

BBD,

I am having a hard time wrapping my mind about this post. Been thinking about it for days. [)] sorry i may be a little slow... could you point me to an article or something to enlighten me??? I am looking to purchase a new driver and retire my Titliest 975J 10* with a G5 or Titliest 905t.

Thanks,

Jackl

Went to the local golf shop and hit a Sasquatch, man that thing is big. And also a titleiest 905t with a speedster shaft (pretty stiff shaft)was wanted to hit the latest G5 driver but they didnt have a demo club. I think I'm going to stick with my current titleiest 975J and practice hitting down on it like Brian says.

"The 8*, 9* and 10* ERC Fusion Drivers have internal weighting that is more evenly spread across the perimeter of the clubhead, which works with a square face angle to help golfers produce a straight, repeatable ball flight"

"The 7.5*, 8.5*, 9.5* and 10.5* ERC Fusion Drivers have more weight toward the toe of the clubhead and slightly open face angles to help better players with higher swing speeds to shape their shots as desired, whether that be a controlled draw or a power fade"

Jackl,
All I'm saying is alot of the Drivers and 3 woods I've seen are slightly closed.. not much just .5 to 1 degree and more in worse cases. There this attitude that everyone slices.
I don't like having to buy a Driver that is designed to be hit up on either, as you hinted at.
Joe, those Callaway Drivers could be just the ticket .. thnx.

wow, learn something new everyday :) I didnt realize clubmakers did that. The more I hang out here the more I realize I have a lot to learn.

I really appreciate the reply's, and sorry if it was a stupid question I just couldnt wrap my mind around why/how... anyway I think I'll buy "The Search for The Perfect Club" by Tom Wishon that Jim Cook recommended in another thread.

If you are not married to the idea of it having to be an OEM driver, you can have a component company such as Wishongolf hand pick a head to fit what you want in loft and face angle.

You can't bend for face angle;) But you can definitely look into quality components.

I agree with you. By having hackers swing closed clubfaces they are actually promoting worse swing habbits. Just picture what a good player would have to do to hit a 2* closed driver straight, then picture the same swing with a straight faced iron. -- ugly way to play golf for sure!
I do think that alot of manufacturers are starting to realize this though, and it's starting to slowly "fade" away. :p
