reverse pivot

i worked on my NSA pattern for a long time, however after videotapeing my swing i noticed lo and behold a reverse pivot. I mean no matter how sharp i feel that i am turning my hip that tailbone still goes where it should not, to the right this of course tilts the shoulders left. my swing looked like a hacker galore, eventhough i belive i have a pretty good understanding of what needs to happen. now are there any drills that you all used to teach yourself not to do this?

Not an expert but turning back to target on backswing and chest to target on through swing seems to be simple way to get loaded/unloaded in the swing.

Try and get your left shoulder over your right foot on the backswing (or in other words, the TOP of your torso - not the bottom)...it is pretty hard to "tailbone" yourself if you do this...

When you setup are your shoulders level? I used to do this and it caused me to reverse pivot, try setting up with your lead shoulder (left shoulder for a righty) higher than your right shoulder.

thanks for your imput but it feels too 2D when i try to tis and i still need to monitor the tailbone when i do this. i generally hook so i fear that i actuall do come ower the top only, i belive, my hinge is working so instead of right i go left!!!!!

komanin, I had trouble with a reverse pivot until I eliminated my lower body sway on the backswing. I have plenty of axis tilt when I turn, not sway. This may be a poor example to highlight sway, but if you stand up straight and slide your left hip to the left, you have some axis tilt. If you slide your left hip to the right, you have what appears to be a setup for a reverse pivot. I'm not saying to slide your left hip to the left on the backswing, but it does provide a good visual for hip sway.

This worked for me; I hope it will help you!

I think you can try putting a club across your chest, from right hip to left shoulder (assuming you're a rightie, if not then reverse). Then get in your swing stance and turn away from the ball and goto the top of your swing, the butt of the club should be pointing in the direction you faced at setup or 90 degress from your target line.

This is the drill you're referring to:

Great for someone who either has a reverse pivot or trouble getting to the inside of the ball.

You don't need to monitor your tailbone if you "post" your right leg...which basically means you "set" the position of the top of the right femur bone (or left on the downswing) to prevent it moving away from the target line.
Even tho you may let the right leg straighten somewhat on the backswing, there comes a point where it stops moving and then all the motion is done by the left hip moving AROUND the "set" right femur bone....Think of a gatepost, with the hinge on the right hand side..the gate will only open by moving around the right "post"..
And consequently the opposite happens on the downswing. You "post" the left leg and pivot your right hip around it...
