RFT and Extensor action

My hand position in the backswing has always been a mystery to me (you know, I need to look at the ball and can only feel where my hands are at the top...). I know to a certain extent where they should be, and I have been trying to put my hands in this position (basically trying to put them there with probably some STT combined with hand positioning). I used to be quite laid off at the top, my watch (left hand) was pointing a bit much toward the sky. Not pretty to watch on video...[:0].

I have read about the magic of the right forearm (Right Forearm Takeaway, RFT), but I have had trouble implementing it in my swing. It feels week and not very stable. Last Friday I watched my backswing in a big mirror with RFT, and I could very easily get my hands to a position where I "look good" in my backswing. Tracing a plane line, going up the turned shoulder plane or whatever makes me look good in the backswing... :). I am not an expert on plane lines... I decided to go for it on my Saturday round, and it worked. I have never hit my long irons as accurate. Good stuff, but the thing that pleased me the most was that the RFT seemed to calm down my over-the-top move (OTT) , and I was swinging with what felt like no force at all. I understand that the OTT is linked to a poor pivot, and I also know my pivot needs work, but the RFT seem to do wonders for my pivot also. I almost feel like I am dropping my hands into the ball, and after I while my pivot takes over...

Yesterday I shot some video, and noticed two things. My right forearm is not on plane with the shaft (I am using RFT). My head rises a bit in the backswing, which will not be good for my shoulder plane. To put my right forearm on plane with the shaft, feels like nothing I have done before setupwise (and will take a lot of work to change I assume). I have to lift my arms a lot and the lie of the club is much toward the toe. Should I pursue a RF on plane with the shaft, or can I use RFT even though my RF is below plane, since the RFT does get me to a good position at the top?

I am also investigating Extensor Action, and I would like to give another "Greatest Tips" quote (this time also from 6bee1dee):

quote:Be sure the set the right forearm in plane with the shaft at set up. My set up improved with higher hands which set the right forearm perfectly. Make sure the right wrist bends back level. This is a strong "strut." I right wrist that bends c0cked is a weak strut that opens the clubface. Okay no TGM terms... after you set up with that on plane right forearm, make a lawn mower cord pull on your left arm, UP to the right shoulder. I find it helps to clear the right hip, kinda like sitting on the back pocket. As Homer said, this keeps the swing closer to a circle then a shoulder turn take AWAY.

I interpret the level bent right wrist in the follwing way: the base of the right thumb is level with the top of my right forearm at setup (put a book on top to find out what level is). Is this correct? If so, the way I adjust my right hand grip could make it easier to get a RF in plane with the shaft at setup.

Some great player (cannot remember who, Sam Snead?) were once quoted saying "I had two lawnmowers going out there". Can one say that the right hand controlled lawnmower in some way is RFT, while the one in the left hand is Extensor Action. It is pulling the cord to start the lawnmower which is the clue here... :)
