Right hand dominant

Can you be completely right hand dominant in the swing? Is this a hitters pattern?

I've been working on feeling as if I hardly grip the club at all with the fingers of my left hand and pull the club with my right keeping the face looking at the ball and getting extensor action. From the top with a closed face I just drive the right hand down and through. All with a slightly closed stance and closed shoulders

Is this a valid pattern? Or a temporary fix?

Great Questions....!!!

Can you be completely right hand dominant in the swing?

Yes.

Even Homer said the Right Hand can "swing."

Is this a hitters pattern?

Doesn't sound like it, from the Golfing Machine point-of-view.

As far as I am concerned—on full shots—hitting and swinging as defined in The Golfing Machine, is more about alignments, and less about powering.

Is this a valid pattern? Or a temporary fix?

Does the ball fly like you wish? Does your scorecard reflect it?

If you hit good shots, it is a valid pattern.

:) :D ;)

Thanks Brian. I hit the ball great, its a little pull because I think I the right hand coming down gets me a little OTT but Im trying to work out how to compensate for that via alignments and setup positions

Nothing wrong with a pull one of the best players of all time had 82 PGA tour wins.

how do you keep a flat left wrist this way? I`m so right hand dominant and dont have a flat left wrist and it makes me top balls on the ground....jp

. You could try setting up at Impact fix, i.e. with a flat left wrist, and then do as TTTank does, drag that flat left wrist back with the right hand and then drive that flat left wrist down into the ball.

Yes thats exactly what I feel I do. The right hand effectively pulls the left wrist left as it takes it back and then leaves it there. Key thing is not to overwswing so at the top you feel that right hand is in a good position to just drive down and through - I hit the ball better when I feel like my right palm is actually facing the ground at the top of swing - so its only 3/4 back

Not to turn this into a TGM discussion, but your above comment is very key to "hitting", stopping at the "top", not the "end". Kudos to you for figuring that out on your own. Homer said something along the lines of, hitters should attempt to take the club back as short as you can until you start seeing a sacrifice in distance.

Leek. I never twistawayed but do you do it with your right hand? I ask because he`s taking the club back with the right hand.....joe

Brian can you please explain this?

...ie how do the alignments differ?...Thanks in advance!

You can play some great golf with a right arm powered swing. I did for a long time, but find it to be high maintenance. I hate the idea that all right sided swings must be "hitterish." All my attempts at using a hitters stroke has always ended in weak straight shots that did not provide adequate distance.

Right hand powered swinging- ya!

Hitting- nay

Good Question...

You can play great golf with the feeling that the clubface not rotating, or rotating a lot.

You can play great golf with the feeling that the right arm is straightening on its own, or from the pivot.

You can play with short backswings, or long, starting with the club up your left arm or not.

You can play with a release that feels at the same time, or in pieces.

BUT NONE OF THESE choices mean you are swinging or hitting, per se.

Got it?

hey, thanks for the response...since i posted this question i saw that "The Movie" had a section on “Hand Conditions: Swinging, Hitting and the Twistaway”, so i bought it and now mostly think i get what you are saying...one question remains, at 4:07 in "The Movie" you say that "the difference is really in the right arm position and the position of this #3 pressure point." and my remaining question is how do you feel the right arm and #3 postitions differ?...thanks!

More under for "swinging," more behind for "hitting."

I prefer "Pull Feel" and "Push Feel," because it really is just feel and alignments.

I didn't know anything about TGM at the time but when I watched Ian Woosnam swing it seemed very right side oriented. Whe he was playing his best, his swing appeared very simple and powerful to me.

Brian, could you comment on Woosies swing.
