RIGHT KNEE AND PIVOT.

HI GUYS,

LATELY I HAVE NOTICED THAT I TEND TO FINSH WITH ABIT TO MUCH WEIGHT ON THE RIGHT LEG IN THE FOLLOWTHROUGH, I STILL FINISH ON MY RIGHT TOE BUT MY BACK IS OBVIOUSLY IN A SLIGHT REVERSE C FINISH, IM YOUNG SO I HAVENT GOT ANY BACK PROBLEMS YET! BUT I NEED TO CHANGE THIS NOT JUST FOR BACK PROBLEMS IN THE FUTURE BUT OBVIOUSLY TO MAYBE HELP MY BALL STRIKING AND GAME.

I HEARD SOMEWHERE IF IN THE BACKSWING IF YOU JUST STRAIGHTEN UP THE RIGHT KNEE YOU SEEM TO GET INTO A GOOD PIVOT POSITION, NOW I TRIED THIS IN THE MIRROR AND IT LOOKED GREAT, PLENTY OF WEIGHT ON THE RIGHT SIDE AT TOP OF BACKSWING AND BACK NICE AND STRAIGHT, IM TRYING TO GET MY BACKSWING PIVOT CORRECT BECAUSE THIS IS PROBABLY CAUSING THE REVERSE C FINISH BUT IF IT ISNT CAUSING THE REVERSE C FINISH I PROBABLY NEED TO WORK ON PIVOT ANYWAY.

IS THE RIGHT KNEE STRAIGHTING OK? IT SEEMS TO GET ME INTO GOOD POSITION, I HAVENT HIT A GOLF BALL DOING THIS BEFORE!! WHILE PRACTICING TODAY ( MAN ITS GREAT BEING A FULL TIME GOLER :) ) I WAS TRYING SOME THINGS IN MY BACKSWING TO GET ALL MY WEIGHT TO THE RIGHT FOOT BUT I FOUND MYSELF SWAYING OFF THE BALL BEFORE THE CLUB HAD EVEN STARTED BACK AND THIS IS NOT GOOD IS IT:confused:

SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK?

CHEERS FOR NOW,
RICKY

The reverse C is caused by an extremely active leg drive, or from what I can tell in viewing your swing down-the-line is a head that does not release after impact (in other words it stays back). Jim McLean does a superb job in his book The 8-Step Golf Swing of talking about how the head has a "swing" of its own, an idea he got from Johnny Miller.

Yes, I do feel I have a bit of a leg drive to be honest, it kind of feels i do it to stop the ball going left and whenever i actually FEEL my legs drive i block it way right! This is just from my golf brain knowing im in trouble so i try and do a last minute saveing action!

But im sure im not getting my weight to my right correctly in the backswing!

Ive read sam snead did te right knee straighten and he had good pivot and perfect balance!

I did this right knee straitning today and it was awesome, it felt natural and i played 9 holes and shot -1 !!! I didnt miss hit 1 shot.

Dude go check out Brian's video on Sneed Squat I think it is. Sounds to me like you are "over commiting" the right leg. I got that going on too. But you need to feel like you are putting pressure into the ground with BOTH feet. You may have to feel like you are really "hanging" back.

If you get your right knee to stay back some during start down it will help out your axis tilt and slow down your hips so you don't block/hook it. So you gotta get your left hip going forward but keep your right heel down.

Are you sure you are reverse C'ing or are you just tilted away from the target a bit?

As long as you are finishing on your right toe and you still have some tilt away from the target you are ok. Look at any good player in their finish (todays swings) and you'll still see some tilt away from the target in their finish.

Maybe I am just tilting away from the target jim, because i am still all the way onto my right toe and I am quite flexible.

Rundmc, I will watch that video tonight sometime. Thanks for the help.

But I have to say once i got my pivot good on the backswing by straightning the right leg man i was bombing it!

Straightening the right leg on the backswing allows maximum storage on the way down. It is an excellent option for a swinger, if choosing this component the right leg would straighten like a wooden peg. If someone were holding your right leg as you made your backswing they would not feel an ounce of pressure ----- excellent way to get max storage

So your saying as you make your pivot back the right leg should straighten? So what do you do on the forward pivot?

Thats what I do. As ive already said lol!

Please dont say what your suppose to do on the forward pivot, please PM xplosivegolf because otherwise ill read it and get all confused and start working on 100 things at a time when really i dont really need to work on anything lol!

Sorry.

Ricky1990 what do you do on the foward swing? I think my biggest problem is not have a good pivot.

Ive always believed in my 3 years of playing golf HAHA thaty a good backswing makes a good downswing automatic. I have never and will never DO on purpose/ or THINK of anything on my forward swing! A good pivot and plane on the backswing is obviously going to make the downswing pretty dam easy if you have decent levels of talent and skill.

At the moment all I am doing is this: On my backswing I am just feeling my first move is straightening the right knee it almost feels like it locks and my shoulders and everything seem to just go for the ride (ive always been lucky that i have naturally a good swing plane) also I feel my weight move to the right with my head. From there I let it all go and rip it!
