Rigth shoulder delay

How can I get the right shoulder delay of forward swing to be automatic? When I think of holding the right shoulder back at the beginning of the forward swing I make good contact.

Can someone give me a suggestion to make this delay automatic?

The shoulder turn is completed by means of a ballistic stretch.

The hip slide at the beginning of the downstroke slightly increases this stretch even further. A ballistic stretch is going to release because you cannot hold it like you can a static stretch.

On a seperate note....It is dynamism like this, which is why posing your golf stroke positions is so bad and counter-productive for your stroke.

By ballistic stretch do you mean the hands pulling the shoulders back for the final few inches? Or just pushing the shoulders back past where you could hold them? Thanks.

The entire power package (shoulders, arms and hands) is in essence 'flung' back after the initial inertia has been overcome during the start of the backstroke. The momentum causes the ballistic stretch after the hips stop. It also causes the wrist conditions.

Don't hold it back at all. Down. Out. Forward.

For me, holding that shoulder back, leads me to dropping it, which leads to severely underplane.

Ballistic stretching is hazardous for your health...

A ballistic stretch is where you use momentum in order to stretch beyond your normal range of motion. It is extremely common knowledge that this type of ballistic rotation is used in many sports including golf and certainly you must have the visual intelligence of lint if you cannot see it.

I could go into the number of history's best golfers who state in their books that they are so loaded at the top that they could never hold or pose it but I can't really be bothered.

As a method of stretching purely for the purpose of increasing flexibility, dynamic stretching is the preferred gentler alternative. The exception is usually for reserved sports where that type of ballistic activity takes place.

Obviously a golf stroke requires some athletic activity... go figure.
