Role of left and right arm for a swinging procedur

I know there are some precise defn's but is it safe to say that a swinger is a left arm dominant player while a hitter is right side dominant. For instance, I believe I'm using a swinging stroke because I use my left arm to "pull" the club into the hitting area and use my right arm to guide the club into the proper swing plane. Does this make sense? I realize that there are many instances where what we feel isn't necessarily what's going on.

Here is my ultimate "swinging procedure" drill:

Take a wedge and grip it only in your left arm. Then using ONLY your left arm "swing the club" by:

- turning your left arm TO THE PLANE (1/4 turn only)
- cocking UP the plane
- letting your left arm DROP back down the plane
- let your left wrist UNCOCK THEN ROLL towards the inside corner of the ball
- then continue the roll THROUGH impact and back towards the plane
- re-cock up the plane again

^^^Done correctly and you will hit a nice high wedge shot that draws slightly with a very shallow divot. Once you get the hang of it, use both hands. Once you REALLY get the hang of it, then just PIVOT FASTER to create more clubhead speed.

------

I created this drill from watching Brian Manzella's Video Short #1: Swinging vs. Hitting

Thanks Jim_0068, I tried it and it works. However I need to work on the pivot to create more speed. Any suggestions?

Jim's drill is a good one. I might add one detail.

When Jim says
-let your left wrist UNCOCK THEN ROLL towards the inside corner of the ball.

The uncocking wrist motion is from cocked to "level" only, not full uncocked (a condition that is reached in the follow through). In the level condition, you still have the ability to use the Transfer Power of the rhythm of the angle between the left forearm and clubshaft.

Differentiating between the uncocking wrist motion (clubhead motion) and rolling hand motion (clubface motion) will put precision in your swing.

This is a good way of learning how to create more speed. Pay a lot of attention ot how Lynn says to "spin, spin."

Just "spin" harder/faster to create more speed. The only "Trick" is to noy let the club get off plane while you're spinning as it is very easy too.

The left arm wedge drill is exactly what John Daly does before he plays. He also likes to hit left hand only putts before a round.

This is a good point. I remember one time that Paul Azinger was in the booth and couldn't understand why he does it, and said himself that he can't do it.

Why?

He's a hitter :)

Noobie,

A swinger pulls the club through with the torso....and yes, this will feel like the left arm or the left side or the left hip or w/e.
