role of Left Arm in swinging

My question concerns the left arm in a swingers motion. Should it be connected to the chest during the downswing? I've heard where the left arm 'blasts off' and not sure what this means exactly. i take it that through a hard pivot it will eventually leave or be thrown out. Please clarify. thanks

Left Arm.

In SWINGING, the left arm is SWUNG across the chest in the backswing, then is FURTHER LOADED against the chest in start down and the early portion of the downstroke.

As the hips near a halt and then the shoulders, the left arm starts swinging BACK the "other way" —this is the #4 accumulator release— and although it is releasing at impact, it is STILL ACROSS THE CHEST.

It reaches its "in line" condition—90° to the shoulders—when both arm are straight in the FOLLOW-THROUGH. At that point the arms often, but not always, past the chest and the left arm starts bending.

The so-called "Blast-Off" is simply the release of the fully loaded left arm(most the arm arm is across the chest), to it's in-line condition.

What is the role of the right arm?

Left arm in the backswing

Guys on a related point what swings the left arm on the backswing?

The reason why i ask is i have trouble keeping the left arm swinging as it nears top. I think it's because my left shoulder is tensing up as my left arm is trying to lift itself. Is it the right arms job to lift the left?

Cheers Danny

Does that imply that every backswing in the end is a right forearm pickup?

No, because in the RFP you are basically taking your hands (with no extra thought of anything including folding your right arm) to some SPOT or you are beginning the backswing with an IMMEDIATE folding of the right eblow. Then how your body reacts to get your hands there is how your body reacts to get it there.

In a more conventional takeaway, you are using your body or hands a little to pull the club away from the ball. Now the club has to eventually LIFT somehow. That happens by folding the right arm.
