Our wee man from 'Norn Iron' has finally won a European Event.

Perhaps premature comparisons are being made with Tiger, but some say he has an even better technique.

He heads over to the States now to compete in a couple of upcoming events including WGC and PGA Tour events.

Brian, you should get a look at his swing sometime, there is nothing to him yet he hits it a mile.

:)

Before the start of the season I put money on him to win The race to Dubai, so it looks like everything is on schedule...

"finally"...? Isnt he like 19?

Everyone is the next Tiger... Let's see him rack up a few majors, and spend the next decade sitting in the number one spot. MEH

Tiger has gotten so much better since he was 19, it makes sense that O'Meara would make that comment. Thats whats so great about Tiger, hes always getting better. But even if he does have more potential than Tiger did, what are the chances he will progress as fast or as much as Tiger did? And will this happen fast enough for him to beat Tiger head to head? I doubt it. Until somebody steals No.1 in the world from him OR wins more than 3 majors, any talk of competition is ludicrous.

This "kid" does seem to be the real deal. I think he lost a couple of playoffs recently after he sort of "stumbled in" to end up in them to begin with. I thought those might affect his psyche a little...... wrong!

I doubt he's another Tiger (only one of those), but I think Rory's gonna do some great things. Sergio better get his major soon!

I like Rory's game a lot. Good looking golf swing and was glad to see him come away with a victory at Dubai...particularly after some idiot snapped a photo in the middle of his swing on 16 (IIRC). One of the toughest parts about becoming the next Tiger, IMO, is that you have to be a phenomenal putter. Tiger eventually became one of the great putters ever. Ballstriking wise, Sergio (another 'the next Tiger') can easily keep up with Tiger if not hit it better. But Tiger's putting is worlds better. McIlroy may wind up being a very good player but nowhere near the next Tiger just on that alone.

McIlroy's victory at Dubai was impressive considering the very fine field that he had to beat and leading from wire to wire was superb considering the "kid" is only 19. I think it a bit of a disservice to start the Tiger comparisons just yet, wait a few years. He does have game and it doesn't seem lacking in any area, with no quit in him. He is learning and learning fast and I'm sure will be a force for all the pros to contend with, not only over the pond, but here in the states as well.

That's because he's irish. Kid's got alligator blood in him.

McIlroy is very fun to watch. He's obviously still learning composure down the stretch. I've really been enjoying watching the European Tour events this winter.

But comparisons to Woods or Nicklaus start once you start piling up the majors. And Woods won, what, 3 Us Junior Ams followed by 3 US Ams before he started winning pro majors?

Love this kid. Wow, what a talent. Fearless. He looked amazing at the Walker Cup. I can't wait to see him and the new Japanese phenom at Augusta. Rhy ? Something that ends in a vowel but isn't Italian.

His name is Ryo Ishikawa...looks like he goes after the ball pretty hard...

Good swing that Ryo has.

Watching it, it made me wonder how anyone could ever favour a "hover" (so called "centered") pivot....."tripod" pivot.
