Ryan Moore's Swing (Pre-set wrists)

I was looking at how Ryan Moore pre-sets his wrist cock earlier today; I guess he does this because of a wrist injury he is battling with. Anyhow, it appears that he cocks the club straight up from the address position and then takes the club to the top from there. Of note, I've seen PGA instructors teach this method to help students properly set the wrists.

I have often heard that this drill is a no-no for TGM as the right wrist is to bend back, not up. What do you all think about the proper wrist cock and why does both ways seem to work?

In his Golf Digest sequence Ryan Moore was double-cocking so I guess this move is just consistent with his regular swing.

Bingo

He uses double wrist action anyway. However just because the right wrist is cocked in this type of takeaway you can still get ot a "level right wrist" by the time you get to the top if you do it right. I performed this on the range for a student who asked me a similar question.

HOWEVER

I could keep that double wrist action look at the top of the swing and just move from bent/cocked left wrist & bent/cocked right wrist in the downswing to flat/level left wrist & bent/level right wrist at impact.

MAke sense?

I'd venture to say that "c0cking" the wrists is minimal in such a procedure. It takes the clubshaft off plane; but a strong left hand grip PERMITS it to appear to be "double" -- because of the dish angle at the top. It is a powerful additional resource.

I rotate my left wrist 90 degrees and pick the club up with my right hand without cocking my right wrist...

Ball Flight= high darting draw

Ball= yells in pain: "CRACK"

Clubface= white paint from the ball 'caked' into the bottom groove.

Playing Partners= Place their hands over their ears in preparation for the thunderous sound of compression "CACK!"

No matter what ANYONE says the way Ryan Moore performs his takeaway he COCKS the right wrist, it is no longer "level."

This means that it will have to become level at some point in the swing. It obviously will work and if your rythym is on it will work well because the nature of CF is to bring your hands into the proper alignment.

For most amatuers though, it's a death move.
