Set-up with the big dog.

I've been experimenting alot lately with set-up with the driver. My stock pattern is a NHAish upright swing. I have found that if I feel like I lower my hands at address this helps me alot, I do this on long bunker shots as well. I know why it helps me(flatter swing, can hit up on it more easily, easier to swing right). I just wondered if anyone else does this and what you think about it and your results. Thanks.

Might be worth remembering that set-up is basically a way of making an accurate measurement from your desired swing center to the ball...

I experimented with this years ago and found the lower your hands are, the better your timing needs to be....

By raising and lowering your hands it seems we are manipulating the height of our swing center.....and lower hands tend to increase the left arm/clubshaft angle....
As two connected lines of force travelling in the same direction have a tendency to try and form a straight line, this means excess left arm/clubshaft angle is giong to mean we have to make a major compensation approaching impact (which is unconcious) to "fit" the extending left arm/clubshaft radius to a position where you can strike the ball cleanly....(if you see what I mean...)

Just a thought....:)

I have no idea what I'm doing.

Thanks for your time and reply Putt. Some things about what I have learned so far. I have no clue what I'm doing,I have no idea how to play golf, I"m really pissed off. My "feel" of "lowering the hands at address" was actually just an increase in PP#2, increasing angle between club shaft and the forearm. You see, I was having trouble actually holding onto the club without losing my grip on it. An increase of correct pressure points in my hands have helped alleviate this problem. I have figured out that reading and trying to learn the yellow book isn't such a bad idea after all, even though I was told it wouldn't help me.
Another problem I have found is that I don't have an understanding of the proper pivot. I, like most beginners, I think, thought the pivot was strictly a horizontal rotational movement. Thinking about "snapping my chain" really screws me up. I am figuring out there is some vertical rotation in there as well. I also don't understand how or where my hands should move. The thing that really is tripping me up is the understanding of roll of the arms in the swing, another beginner misconception I guess.
I have tried to learn the swing by posing movements and getting to positions, but this isn't working. I need correct info and lots of it, explained many ways and a way to learn how to get there athletically, not positionally, or being forced there.
Sorry for the rant, but I needed it and will probably need some more of it... till then.

I recall sometime ago that you went and saw Kevin and raved about it in fact if I remember correctly Kevin mentioned that you had a lot of ability for a newbie. So why try to correct on the internet why don't you see Kevin again, he is pretty close to you isn't he?

Just an opinion.
