Seve

Found this quote on Lynn's site:

"Jim McLean: With a huge talent like Seve, conscious thought can
short-circuit the intuitive gift. He got with Mac O'Grady, and they
had that ritual of burying Seve's old swing in the desert. I thought it
was a sad day for golf. I wrote a long letter to Seve after reading
that but never got a reply.
Mac knows a tremendous amount about the golf swing, and he's a
compelling teacher, but with Mac talking a lot of science and
demonstrating, it was a lot for Seve to absorb. Changing Seve was
taking an artist and making him a mechanic."

...

What's your thinking on the whole thing Brian?

Let me say that Seve is a legend, cant remember who said it but I think it might have been Crenshaw, I get more excited watching Seve tie his shoe laces, than see some of these young guys shoot 65.
Seve back is so bad, he is now divorced, I guess stuff happens, but there are a lot of Europen golfers out there who play because of Seve, oh and the Ryder Cup might owe a dollar or two to Seve.

In the book "golf is not a game of perfect" there is apart about seve where he become so mechanical he didnt enjoy golf anymore and that he was becoming like 95% of other players on tour and hated not being a feel player and an artist! Im guessing this is when mac o grady teamed up with him!

I read in some GD interview....some pro (can't remember who) said Seve was the guy who he thought was the best player he'd ever seen at one single point in time.

He said when Seve was at his best "it was like there was an aura around him"....."he couldn't lose."

Something like that.

Seve never seemed to recover mentally after he dumped that 4 iron into Rae's Creek in the '86 Masters.

I think it was De Vicenzo.

when mac started working with seve he was already done. Mac got him back to winning form but mentally he was already gone. so when mac and seve split that was the end of his good play, since he hasnt done anything. Mac does know all the science and angles to golf but teaches mainly by feel everyone needing different specific feels for there swing to get the right mechanics into there swing.

Also it ses in "golf is not a game of perfect" that seve said when he was at his best he was on the plane flying to tournaments and he already knew he was going to win the tournament!! lol!!!

BantamBen2 is correct.

Also, Mac told me that Seve dropped him as a coach for one of his students (it may have been Seve's caddie, I can't recall for sure). Mac said that the guy wasn't ready to work with Seve, implying that a little knowledge is dangerous. Mac is very defensive and indeed bitter about being the scapegoat for Seve's woes and claims that his former student was really to blame. But who knows?

Again, your host gets it right!

Seve was the best player in the world.

Then he wasn't.

He worked with Mac and DID get back to very good form for a while.

Then IT went bad.

Then Seve lost it altogether.

But why??

All he had to do was apply XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.

(I'd rather not say)

XXXXXXXXX = extensor action ?

seve game was never built on very accurate ballstriking it was just banging it long and getting it in the whole with the best short game of all time. Mac said seve could bet money with any tour player and there sw verses seve with a 5 iron out of the sand and seve would win every time he just had all the shots and tons of confidence but just like alot of players (duval) once you lose that your done almost no one has come back and played years after hitting bottom

The only example I can think of is Lee Westwood. He really hit a wall a few years ago and has bounced back pretty good.

However, he is still not as good as he was in 99-00
