shaft question

how many times can you re-shaft a club before you ruin the shaft? I'm thinking of buying an expensive shaft to install on my driver. But I can see myself getting a new driver head in the next 6 months.

i asked my local clubfitter and he said that for bore thru drivers, you can only shaft it once, and max twice.

Two risks I'm aware of - one is overheating the resin material(and the bore-thrus require longer heating time due to the longer insertion), and two, what I've seen more often, is the re-prepping the shaft tip cutting breaking some of the glass reinforcing material. Twice, I've also seen cracks in the shaft tip (when looking very closely), which was causing the heads to keep slipping back off. Personally, I would say your risk is low (but not zero) for just one shaft pull.

Just curious, what benefits are you looking for in an expensive shaft that can't be found in a more moderately priced shaft?

I'm using a stock speeder shaft at the moment. I've tried other shafts (with similar specs), but I'm just used to the feel of this shaft. Without the luxury of custom fitting, I think I can't go too wrong with a real speeder shaft. I'm sure it's a psychological thing too :)
