Interested if people change their grip to shape the ball or merely change the clubface angle/alignment
I have a strong grip and have played about doing both but find I can hit fades a lot easier with a strong grip simply by lining up open and opening the club face (a bit like Freddy Couples I think?) and then thinking of swinging left - a little OTT
Ditto a draw by lining up closed, closing the face and swinging right
Grip doesnt change
There are a lot of different theories about how you set up to draw or fade....me, I prefer the logical way, which I think is easier to understand and execute on a consistent basis...
Taking Iron Byron as an example, the only way to adjust the machine for draw or fade, is to rotate the base. He can't swing in-to-out or out-to-in, so the only adjustment is the base..
From there it is just an adjustment ot the clubface, depending on whether you want a draw or fade, however, any change must be accompanied by an adjustment to the grip. For me, the grip always looks the same when I look down on it. I don't rotate my forearms to open or close the blade (well I do, but then re-grip back to my normal grip, but with the face open or closed...basically the grip is then "effectively" strong or weak for a draw or fade, respectively. Works OK for me, and gives me a consistent guideline, which can be progressively adjusted if neccessary...
To me, to swing more "in or "out" depending on draw or fade involves too many variables and must take longer to become consistent at the amount of draw or fade you are trying to achieve..
I know Seve used to suggest weakening the right hand grip for a fade and vice-versa for a draw, but then again, does that apply to us mere mortals...
