Shoulders too open at impact

I recently had a lesson with a golf instructor for a terrible slice I have. His findings were that at impact, my shoulders where too open to the target at impact, which created a outside to in swing path and a bad slice. He really did not recommend any drills expect to start my swing with my arms. Do you have any comments or drills that may help me with my slice.

Thanks

Bob

While an out/in clubpath does CONTRIBUTE to a slice that is not the CAUSE of the slice.

The reason why you slice the ball and subsequently come over the top is because your clubface is too open.

If you have had a more "closed" clubface and came over the top you'd hit a pull shot that didn't slice and you'd work on that to straighten out the ball flight.

Currently, if all you did was fix the "over the top" motion you'd still hit the ball to the right.

Brian has a DVD available called "Never Slice Again." It is probably the most comprehensive video produced to get rid of your slice.

Now i'm not trying to just "sell you something." I could easily help you for a few weeks online and explain how you will need to adjust your grip, setup, pivot, backswing, and downswing but it would take a lot more time than just watching a video. Plus you'd always have it to reference as well.

Let me know if you need anymore help. Here is a link to all the reviews on the video i am discussing:

A few weeks back, I went to a local golf shop and had my swing analyized. The reading was a 95 clubhead speed. a 9 degree outside in swing and about a 3 degree open clubface. Here again, these numbers are off memory, but I think they are real close. A funny thing here, the guy working there did not explain what I was doing wrong, he instead tried to pitch to me to buy and offset head driver that he said would cure my slice. I feel I have a decent grip, setup, downswing. I think my tempo might be off. Could my tempo cause my problem

Thanks

The reason you slice the ball is because the face is too open, that's it in a nutshell.

You need to learn how to not open the clubface so much in the backswing or downswing or both!

However there are other things that go into this such as grip/setup/pivot/etc.

I tried something while at range tonight. During my set up, instead of having my shoulders square to the ball, and aligned straight to target. I turned them slightly away or to right of target. Seemed to help reduce my slice.

The more you aim right the more you'll swing to the right and flip it to close the face. You are just trying to fix the wrong thing.

I could fix you in one swing.

Really.

I did it at the PGA Show demo day with Dave Edel watching.

New world record.

How?

Twistaway the WHOLE SWING.

Just practice looking IN your left hand and at the BACK of your right hand the whole swing (Practice swings) and then DO IT!

You can do it!

Brian,

Are you planning any lessons/instructions in So. Cal anytime soon?? I remember reading something about several road trips you are planning this year.

Thanks

Bob
