Sick of the yips

Have had yips for awhile, beat them last year but back again. Used the claw for awhile but not feeling great this year nor does croshanded (altho better) Not interested in long or belly.
The really frustrating thing is when I am practicing I can make the from all over w/ a normal grip. Feel like I can make them w/ a 5 iron iof I had to on the practice green. First putt on course. yip.
Damon, the season I did not havbe them I used your friend Geoff's method, but not working now.
I know its mental but doesnt make it any easier to cure
 
In my experience aim is important (it's very important I have confidence in it when I'm over the ball) and so is minimization (distraction) of conscious thought.

I also try to minimise time spent over the ball without sacrificing quality of aim. Using an aiming line on the ball may help. (there is less to worry about right before execution)

I am not a staunch "head down" guy but I like it for putting.

Still learning but this works well enough for me so far.

"Approach the ball parallel to aim line" experiment seems to be a bust.

Current Experiments of note:

-More of a locked left wrist; loose right arm.

-More attention on rhythm and smoothness. I still like to take a shorter stroke and give it a bit of a rap. (my greens ain't super fasr either)

-More attention on visualising first part of line. From ball through my aiming mark(s). (which as of now I like fairly close to the ball)

-Full roll putting. (or at least "more roll with a flat left wrist")

Just a suggestion, but I believe the yips usually start off being a mechanical issue and not a mental issue. I'm sure there are times where it's purely mental, but from my experience the mechanics are poor and that causes the problems.

For instance, I've never really had the yips for any real length of time up until about a month ago with my putting. One of the issues I found was that the putter I had didn't have the lie angle and loft it was off from what it was supposed to be. Not only did this increase my skid, but occasionally the ball would go off the putter face a little weird and I would catch a lot of putts mostly off the toe. This eventually reeked havoc with the brain and I started getting the yips. Now I just made a simple putter change with the proper lie and loft and I immediately eliminated the problem.

With putting I believe that the yips usually stem from very poor putter face alignment. If you aim left of the intended target, you're likely to try and manipulate the putter face and 'open it to square.' If you aim right of the target, you're likely to 'stroke it left' in order to get it square at impact. I'd suggest getting a laser aid that attached to your putter, which you can get for like $20 and/or getting a SAM Puttlab putting lesson so you can see what your alignment looks like at address and at impact. And I would also suggest getting a putter fitting with a clubfitter who has a Mitchell putter fitting studio to make sure that you're not getting too much skid and getting that ball rolling.

Without getting into your stroke too heavily, some of the things that you can control are:-

1. Preparation...Putt read, aim,
2. Mental goals during stroke...what I mean by this is what you strive to think about during the stroke itself. Being more 'process oriented' helps - a way to do this is to hit all putts with the goal of not looking at the roll of the ball.
3. Post shot 'reaction'! Indifference if missed,happiness if you make the putt and you hit a good putt.

Of course the mental stuff has to be predicated on good mechanics. Your stroke mechanics might not be what you think they are, and the relaxed practice sessions may mask the flaws that present themselves in a competitive situation.

The interesting thing is you can make them from all over in practice. Why? Maybe it's because in practice your not trying to make them, your mind is free of the pressure of( i have to make this putt or i'm trying to make it. )

Have contests with your golfing buddies for some cash or who buys after the round. Put some pressure on those practice putts, like the ones that count on the course. :)
 
Suggestions.

Relaxation. Take a couple of deep breaths (the type where you stick your stomach out). I also let my arms dangle and shake my wrists.

Routine. Do the same thing on every putt from the moment you start reading the putt.

Stroking the Putt. Don't Hestitate. Go through the routine and do it.
Don't give your mind time to screw it up.

After impact hold your follow through position.

Lose the expectaion (outcome) and focus on making a pure stroke, as you would on the practice green...

Damon, if I were to video my putting stroke and post it would you be willing to take apeek? What would be the best angles?

YOU HAVE TO FIGURE OUT AN ANTI-YIP STROKE AND I HAVE ONE FOR YOU:

With your putter in front of you, grip it as if you were going to make a "left-handed" or "opposite for you handed" stroke.

Remove the butt end of the club from your solo plexus, and push the right (top) hand against the left (bottom) arm.

Bend over, get comfortable, and keep the fist against the arm.

No yip—ever.

Went to the Angel Cabrera method last night and felt good. Long putter, almost belly length, but it doesn't anchor to the belly. Felt very controlled
