I've heard that many pro's set up slightly open. Is this true? If so why. Can you attack the ball from the inside better?

Thanks

Slightly Open

I had a great vantage point at the Wachovia Tournament and watched almost everyone set up with their feet aimed at the left side of the the fairway and the ball went dead down the middle. I asked a good player and he said we aim left and try to cover the ball.

Why Pros Line Up Left.

Most Tour Caliber Players line up with their feet—and sometimes knees, hips, and shoulders as well—Open.

Why?

Becuase the "Hips-then Hands-then sightly Open Clubhead" sequence that about 99% of all good players have through the ball, allows for solid contact and most of all: No HOOKS!

An Open Stance, simply gives you a head start.

BUT!

That's not all!!

It also makes it easier for these players to NOT SWING TOO FAR TO THE RIGHT, the flaw that so many Top-Level golfers have, it is behind most of the many teaching fads on Tour.

Anyhoo, setting up open makes it easier to perform the three imperatives...

for some.:D

Well we are on the right track then Rick. I hit some drives in my garage today and it felt good. The only thing I can think of is that it helps attack from the inside more.

PS I believe Trevino aimed quite a bit left and a lot of people rate him near the top as far as ball strikers, including BM.

Maybe that's why it feels better for me. I swing too right and my ball flight is right to left. I want my fade back!

I'll take this new setup from my garage to the range and see what happens.

After yesterday round, when I had like 4-5 20 Yards hooks,
Today I decided to eliminate the Left side, I used an open stance, aim left, and really focus on the number 3 Imperative - Trace a straight plane line... and not lunge at the the ball hitting the heel of the clubface which for me, hello hooks and pulls.
The result - 1 hook only and that was when I tried yesterday routine when I'm swinging from the inside.
Basically straight, 3-10 yards fades drives and irons ( a few tops here and there, my legs left me in the end).

I played 27 holes, I got 17 of 21 Fairways, and the 3 misses were 2yard from the fairway(fades) and the one 5yard hook , no drops balls, 5 over (stinky short game not too many up&downs).

Well, that leads me to my question...
Tracing a Straight Plane line, is it The Most Important Imperative for straight ball flight (or desired)?
Or is it the FLW(Clubface control)?

It's like deja vu all over again...

Is "Tracing a Straight Plane Line," The Most Important Imperative for straight ball flight (or desired)?
Or is it the Flat Left Wrist (Clubface control)?

For a "Hooker" or a very good player the most important thing is the PLANE LINE.

For a "Slicer" or a new golfer the most important thing is the CLUBFACE. :)

I've noticed this, too. I followed many players at Riviera this year and was very surprised to see that the majority of them lined up open and hit what I'd call a slight push.
