Jim, that photo is upside-down. He's striking it on the 3rd and 4th groove. It's hard to believe a ball can do that much damage though.

haha, i know that photo was taken upside down. i still say its a bit high and a bit large as well. m not saying my wear spots are perfect but if he is playing that much to create that much of a wear mark id work on a bit better contact. should b a bit lower and the wear mark smaller.
 
Jim - I'm sure you're not trying to be mean, but I'll bet that most of the tighter wear spots you've seen haven't worn down nearly the depth of this one.

Fair's fair - the deeper the wear spot (and I've never seen anything like this) the wider it's going to be too.

That wedge has probably seen more balls struck a half-inch towards the toe than mine has in total.
