soft click vs hard clunk

Most of the time when I hit balls they feel hard and clunky. On occasion it feels really soft, where i barely feel the ball, and it makes a nice sound as well as going a lot further. Does anyone know what I am talking about. If so, do you know how to make that happen more often or on purpose?

This depends on your ball striking skill level.

I suspect that the soft feeling shots that go farther are a result of you making solid contact and compressing the golf ball. When you don't make solid contact, the ball does not compress so it feels hard and doesn't go far.

Thats when you pure it, they always seem easier and go further. Rather than look to do it more often seek to make your bad shots better.

oh that's what puring it means. It feels really amazing and keeps me coming back. I'm guessing there is too much involved in the swing to ask how to pure it... I wish I could do that all the time.

Impact tape really helped me out with this. I spent a session doing nothing but trying to hit the center of the face (not worrying about ballflight), which got me that feeling you're talking about. The tape really gave me visual feedback to go with the feel, which helped make it easier to correct the mishits.
