soft left elbow near impact with high torque release?

I broke 90 at my club (73.2/133) (first time!) last week and my ball striking was great. I played at a much harder course in the rain yesterday and was all over the place but mostly on the left side due to a big draw/hook. I think I stiffened up as I was having a bear of a time maintaining grip of the club as everything in my possession was soaked with water. My thesis was that I was locking my left elbow (old habit) and that I simply wasn't releasing correctly. My release turned into a quick turnover of the hands.

Am I right that one needs to keep an easily foldable left arm so that the club can get through smoothly after applying all that torque? A locked/straight left arm seems to lead to all sorts of hip slide and axis tilt to get down to the ball sometimes resulting in the dreaded fat shot (my old nemesis).

This probably all relates to "no tug" and "vertical left arm" but i didn't feel like I was tugging it felt more like there was a massive road block in my way to get the club through.

I will say that golf continues to get more and more fun thanks to the "new" concepts that are flying around here and at MJ's place. A little time with MJ didn't hurt either!

I can identify with the road block feel. No fun when it happens and difficult to get away from. Normally if I get that feeling during a round I make hard "cut" practice swings. Don't know the explanation why but seems to help me.
