Some Quick NSA Questions

Hey guys,

I've gone back to pure NSA style swinging, and leaving the draw stuff alone for a while, and I've come up with some repeatable errors, and questions I hope to figure out. I'll try to be brief and concise.

1. Does anyone else find that using 'twist away/twist to' the target only works with woods and driver? I am finding if I do this with irons, I cook them left and start having erratic ball flight, but am totally fine if I don't twist.

2. Sometimes before I hit the ball on the course with Driver, I do a slo-mo swing and find at impact (even using twisting motions) that the face is about 2* open. How do I adjust for this? Should I A ) strengthen left hand B ) strengthen right hand C ) start with driver more closed in grip, or something else entirely?

3. An observation during 'test' swings on the course (again driver/woods only) is when I twist as much as possible to target, I find a puzzling occurrence, the toe of the driver/woods is pointing -down- towards the ground, and the heel is higher. (I don't know if this helps but I noticed many times (Driver/woods only) that my left wrist is bent inwards (the opposite of flipping wrist action... not spent at all).

Since these are re-occurring symptoms for me, I just wondered if anyone had any ideas or suggestions.

Actually, it usually is the hardest to do with woods and driver because the loft is so little and you have to twist so much. If you are over cooking irons with the twistaway you need check a few things:

1) perfectly neutral grip (extremely important)
2) not coming over the top
3) not flipping towards the bottom

2. Sometimes before I hit the ball on the course with Driver, I do a slo-mo swing and find at impact (even using twisting motions) that the face is about 2* open. How do I adjust for this? A couple degrees open is about what you want at impact with path that is a few degrees inside/out which should produce a very soft draw

that's fine

Thank you Jim.

I can tell you quite honestly my grip is on the strong side. It's a habit I'm trying to break. When I get in trouble (maybe I don't twist properly) I will often get right back into a strong grip.

I've heard a few times that the grip should be neutral (very important) but why is that? I heard Brian say it in NSA 2.0. Something to the effect of.. 'it does other things to your swing...'

Thanks again

A "manzella neutral" grip is required with NSA because you are learning clubface control and how to properly rotate it in the swing and no flipping. Essentially you are, in my opinion, properly learning clubface control and how to use your arms in the swing. Once you learn how to do this, you can always "go back" to something more stronger and rotate the face less.
