Still fiddling around with the right elbow and forearm positions. As I do often, I was trying to relate what I was feeling to what I wanted to do with the club. I came upon the observation that when I was making the proper move with my elbow and forearm that the club was in a much more horizontal attitude through impact, which made a lot of sense to me. On my takeaway, I've always had issues with the clubhead being drawn around me lower than the handle. But I went to the range today with the idea that I was going to swing the grip of the club much more horizontally while letting the clubhead move vertically. As a result, the feeling I have is that I am sweeping the shaft of the club along the grass... but I am NOT blocking it.

Any thoughts?

I personally find that the horizontal, sweeping feeling on the downswing produces more consistent shots, particularly with driver which is probably my best weapon.Even with irons i don't feel like i hit down on the ball but i still take a divot. Now that doesn't mean i recommend others do the same.I'm speaking from someone who for years had a very steep downswing.Feel is a very personal thing.

I've experienced the opposite results. I am attempting to eliminate the sweeping feeling I have engrained in my swing, not only in the clubshaft motion, but also my pivot. Today at the range, my best shots(only 2 out of about 150, LOL) occured when it felt like I was reverse pivoting because I was turning my upper body and hips around the spine on the backswin, instead of my usual upper body sliding to the right a bit. My downswing, although it felt more vertical, was actually more three dimensional.

I'm not sure I explained what I mean clearly enough. I'm not "Sweeping" the clubhead along the grass.. I'm sweeping the whole shaft, but I"m not restricting the motion of the club to drop below my hands. The club itself is more horizontal.. but swinging around my normal plane. This really drops my hands closer to my body which has really been a problem for me. I tend to get my hands way out away from me.

The more horizontal the club is,the more shallow(sweeping) the clubhead is through impact.Same thing.

I don't think TGM advises this way to swing as there will be greater plane shifts.
