staring at the ball

Grasshopper has graduated and I learned a new swing tonight, and I get to choose which swing to use. John showed me a swing where, similar to hitting, the sweetspot is looking at the ball throughout the whole backswing. No forearm rotation back or through. It is swinging on the sweet spot plane with the sweet spot staring at the ball the whole time. Right now it is not as long as my other swing, only learned it tonight so what should I expect. It is amazing what can be learned from someone who knows what is going on. Any idea why more people dont swing this way?

mj, dont misquote, I said "RIGHT NOW it is not as long as my other swing." Carry distance is about 260 where as the other is 275. First day doing it and the timing is not completely there but the accuracy is very consistent. With timing it would get longer.

while clubhead speed at impact will not necesarrily be as fast, the loss of clubhead speed through the ball, by keeping the right wrist so cupped, will be less with this method

I thought the rotation was still supposed to be there just at a different time and amount?
no, the cluface may appear to rotate but that is only because the backswing is on an angled plane and not straight up and down

In Swinging, Angled Hinging can't match Horiz Hinging, now or later.

I find about a 20-30 yard difference on a well struck drive, at the extremes of delay and rotation.

Timing and Rhythm have less margin for error however, that is where angled hinge has the advantage - accuracy.

shootin4par, interesting you are now working on keeping the clubface looking at the ball throughout the entire backswing. I tried that for awhile, but for whatever reason, lost some distance. My shots were more accurate and it certainly eliminated rolling the club to the inside.

I guess my only concern is how do you set your wrist properly if there is no rotation?

I would appreciate an update on your swing over the next couple weeks to see how things work out.

well you lost distance because you cannot use number three power accumalator. With this swing the most you can be is a 3 barrel. As you asked "how do you set your wrists with no rotation" it is not possible to set the wrist without rotation? Start at address and just set the wrists there and make sure you dont rotate the forearm, now turn the body to the top and back down.
Also, since I just started really getting the other swing I think I will just practice that for a while. it was great to be able to do this almost instantaneously, but I want to get the other swing pretty pure for a while.

Shootin for par, i think MOST people should swing this way.
Wonder why it's not taught to the majority?
Sure, you MAY lose some distance if you CAN apply #3 consistantly, but most of the people i see playing CAN'T.
But i say people that learn this procedure will actually hit it FARTHER, they will on a more consistant basis have sweeter center face contact, and won't be losing tons of distance hitting curve balls all over the course.
The majority of golfer are what you guys call hacks, play city and county courses from the white or blue T's, the courses arent that long, it would be worht their time learning to keep it in play more often.

The mash factor is greater.

Not greater, easier, which means most folks will do better at solid contact.
