Stiff shaft yay or nay?

I went to Roger Dunn's to get new shafts for my irons and the salesman said I should stick with R300 since my iron speed is not over 100mph. So I went to test my friend's project x 5.5 (same iron as mine) i hit the ball much better and straighter. No more hooks, looks like more distance as well. Could the salesman miscalculated somewhere?

Jen, out of curiosity are the lie angles of your friend's clubs diifferent than yours?

all standard.

I seriously think my irons are messed up tho. I banged them on the ground pretty bad for a year. I wonder if that messed up my irons at all. My 5 and 6 irons shafts were shattered twice....too much wallop

Karsten Solheim said that everyone should play stiff shafts in irons, because accuracy was much more important than any distance advantage that may be gained from shaft action. Flipside, nearly everything that is sold OEM in "uniflex" is softer than a DG R300. I'll bet you could find a fitter that would tell you either one was correct.

Holy cow. Is that what he said or driver speed?

Personally I think stiff shafts help with dispersion control. There are times I can hit X though my speed is no where near that, and they seem much more in control. Steve-T will say use L shafts, lol.

I used stiff shafts for a long time, and my game always seemed to be improving. Then I went back to regular for reasons of logic, based on swing speed, fitting guides, and advice from fitting gurus. That was an awful mistake.

Project x 5.5 appears to be your shaft, or at least an upgrade.

That Mizuno Shaft Optimizer looks pretty cool.

If I am using a regular flex shaft (graphite) in my irons, and my swing speed is 90mph with my 6 iron, should I try out stiff shafts? Guess it couldn't hurt. I play stiff shafts in my 3wood and driver and come to think of it, I rarely hook them. Hook only comes into play with my irons.

If your speed with a 6 iron is 90 mph, a stiff would be better. I would also suggest something heavier, something in the 100-110 gram would probably be better for that speed. I have the same speed and use a mid weight x flex and like it. I have found that the lighter you go the stiffer you can play.

Me Jim? If so, I didn't test any iron. I play stock callaway graphite regular flex shafts, mid-low torque with low kickpoint in my fusions. Swing speed was tested by Trackman when I saw Brian.
