Still/Video Camera

Are the new high speed video cameras just that or can they take stills as well? We need to replace our video and still cameras and if possible would just like to get 1 nice one that does both. It would mostly be used for "family stuff"( pics and home movies) but would definitely be utilized for golf as well. :)

Any suggestions? THanks

Just got the Casio fh20. It's an actual camera. Shoots stills and high speed video. Cost about $500 after all was said and done.

All in one Camera, video with 8gb card at least 1 hour HD Video no problemo...
Still very good also...

I love my FH20 as well. One question to Hot and GG. I downloaded a couple videos that I made in HD and in standard def to a DVD and the video comes out kind of choppy. Have you guys tried this at all? The slow motion video comes out great and I use it in swing software nicely but the regular speed movies are choppy.

Thanks,

Steve

Maybe it's the fields per second (30fps insted of 60fps) with HD 1920-1080 that made it choppy...

HD, I'm,not even trying to burn to DVD, I barely can see it on my computer, you really need a fast computer to see the HD...only with nero no choppy video.
Standard 640-480 on the other hand no problemo, which software you used?

Thanks HOT. Yeah I am going to experiment with it. I did have the 60 fps setting and that is how it came out. I am going to try and copy it to my hard drive on my desktop, not my laptop and see if that works.

Using quicktime to view the videos and have tried Windows Media Player too. I had Nero but didnt work, too slow to load.

The DVD I burned also didnt work on my DVD player which I wanted to see on my HD TV (record in HD view in HD) but that didnt even work.

Again, still photos, high speed photos and high speed videos are really great with this camera. I have the f20 but HOT's F1 is a notch higher. There are actually different features with each though with some benefit with the f20 and some with the f1 depending on what you want to do.

Maybe media/DVD player compatibility issues?
HD 1280-720 I'm using Nero 8 essientials (Yellow).

Bolt,

I have never tried using it for anything but high speed video and playback so, sorry, but can't help you there.

I did lots of research on it and found lots of reviews...To summarize them for you: 1. The super slow motion is awesome. 2. The still pictures are no better than a point and shoot camera. 3. The video lacks lots of features, no image stabilization, and focus/zoom issues.

So, if you’re looking to replace a point and shoot camera it’s a little pricey and the video is way below an average hd video camera. But if you’re looking for the slow motion option it can't be beat. I tried to justify it for a family camera but I just couldn't pull the trigger on it and wound up with a Sony that has a 3 sec slow motion that makes it hard to get a golf swing on, at least it might get rid of any Sergio tendency I might have.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like we are looking for the same thing (family camera for golf). I was almost ready to pull the trigger on the EX-FH20. Now I may need to keep looking.

If you are looking to point and shoot a fast motion you can set the shutter speed to catch great detail and also get up to 40 frames per second so it is far better than some point and shoot cameras in that regard. I still want to experiment with the HD video some more though to give that portion a solid A.

Sanyo has a camera that is quite good too, almost opposite of the fh20 it is a video camera that takes stills. So the HD quality is probably very good and it also takes fast still pictures and slow motion video.

Sanyo VPC-FH1BK. I dont know how to do a link but do a seach on google and you will find it. Same thing takes an SD card 8-16 gigs is fine and will hold a lot of video and pictures. That may be more doable for you since you want to satisfy the family!!

Thanks Steve, I'll take a look.

UPDATE: Went to the Sanyo website and they actually have "dual" cameras (like the one Steve mentioned) that have super slo mo. Now I'm getting excited. :)

For Family camera and golf slow motion you can go with the Sanyo HD1010.
The only cons, the menu joystick is terrible,
But it take great stills, Full HD and slow motion 210fps -1200fps but just 10 seconds and shutter speed not the best you need light to get it to 1/2000
I have both, the Casio I like much more for golf (it's big but Slow motion is perefect) and the Sanyo for family, it's smaller almost too small...but quality video (great colors and stills).
Compromise...

Do you really only need 210 fps? 420 seems great but some of the clips I've seen on youtube are not the best quality. Need tons of light right?

420fps is the small casio I think but the resolution is way too small

210fps with sanyo is enough but only 10 seconds and you need the sun but shutter speed still low
check this videos with the Sanyo HD & slowmotion

I think anything in the 200 fps area is all you need to get a good look at your golf swing. The higher you go the more the quality drops and the more light you need.....I looked at all the different cameras and I couldn't find one that did the super slow mo great and then did video great or dslr pictures great. I wasn't going to buy a camera on the super slow motion only it had to either give me dslr quality pictures or great hd video. It really comes down to what do you want it for, what ever you are using it for the majority of the time, go for the best qualities in that area.
