Straightening right leg

I have read that Brian Manzella believes the right leg should straighten a little. I have a chronic bad back and my hamstrings are very tight.Would it be best to barely flex the legs, so when my right leg does straighten, that it is changing position just alittle. I believe I now have quite a bit flex in my legs at address, so at the top when my leg straightens and am drastically changing the angle of the right leg.Would having almost no knee flex at adress be that bad of a thing?

Honestly, when done correctly, there should be no strain on your low back or hamstrings at the top of the backswing when slightly straightening the right knee. The best setup is the most used by good golfers because it feels comfortable.

When I feel the strain--I've had surgery for a herniated disk and currently have two more that are herniated--is right after impact when most of the force of the club is going down and out. But, if I swing correctly using the pivot and swinging across my left hip all is good with the back.

Straightening the right leg should just be a response to standard hip action. What's wrong with that? It worked fine for Snead and Jones a few decades ago.

should or can?

I think it's important to note that Brian doesn't subscribe to one preference. It's my understanding that he only believes that straightening the right knee can be be good for the average golfer so he can make a pivot that aids in finding the inside. For underplane flippers and the overly flexible, keep that knee flexed!

spktho,
Add a right toe drag to that and you should have no problems from your back, as it will stay more in alignment...
