Strangest thing to happen to you on a golf course?

I was playing a Hogan Tour Monday qualifier at Texarkana Country Club. The tenth hole is a short dogleg left around the driving range. I was hitting my second to the green,(a punch wedge) after driving it through the fairway a yard or so into the right rough. Right as I hit the ball here it comes straight up at my face. I moved to keep from getting hit and it falls to the ground right where it started from. I am now in a state of shock. "How did I do that?" While I am thinking this my playing partners are telling me, "great shot!". I'm thinking, "these guys are asses". After further inspection, I realize the ball that almost hit me was a range ball. It was buried in the ground directly under mine and my ball was a few feet from the hole. Should I have been penalized for hitting a wrong ball and practicing all in the same shot.[:0] And no, I didn't qualify.

Next one I could tell is how I hit 17 greens and shot 78. The one green I missed by a foot I made an 11.[B)]

I was on the range at a local publinx with a chronic shanker next to me on my right. I was feeling pretty safe when he managed to hit the outside of the ball with the back edge of the hosel, sending the ball directly between his legs and hitting me in the right thigh. This ball had serious spin and enough velo to cause a muscle knot.

This happened in 1978 while playing a military course on Peterson AFB in Colo Springs. I was playing in a threesome (walking). We were playing the 17th hole, a par 3 approx 128 yards with a big lake to the right of the green. My buddy hit a shot to within 3 feet of the pin. His birdie putt lipped out and in an act of frustration he started to throw his club; he then noticed that if he let go of his club it would end up in the lake so he decided to hold onto to it and came around and smacked “his buddy” (I had just met the guy that day) square in the forward with his putter. His buddy fell face first on the green with blood gushing out of a big gash in his head. I “ran” to the clubhouse to get call an ambulance (this happened before cell phones and 911 were available) It was a miracle that he wasn’t killed. The guy ended up with massive stitches but recovered alright. My buddy quit the game of golf. The sad thing was he NEVER got mad while playing a round but the one time he does something stupid he almost killed his friend.

Golf can bring out the worst in you if you let it. I try to smile after a bad shot and keep telling myself its “only a game”.

To this day I wonder what the guys waiting on the T were thinking as an ambulance pulled up to the 17th green

Ouch!

I've come close to getting hit in the temple by a shot from another fairway (went right across my eyeline), but damn, a putter to the forehead. Not fun.

I was playing in a US Am qualifier and had a short approach with a mound about 3 ft in front of me. Didn't think anything of it, hit my shot, it goes straight into the mound and right back at me. I had to dive out of the way so it didn't hit me. My playing partners looked over at me like I was nuts.
It is amazing how many weird things happen during tournament qualifiers.

No. Decision 15/2 of the rules of golf covers EXACTLY this situation. No penalty.

Thanks Redan, for looking up the decision...I was being facetious:D

By the way...that other story about missing a green by a foot and making an 11. Has anyone besides me ever hit themselves with the ball while putting?

There's the amateur way - miss a short putt long, reach over the hole
and tap it back, missing and hitting your foot. And, there's the pro way which is to hit a short putt too firm with the ball doing a 360 around the rim, hitting your foot.

Not on the course, but this morning at the range, a truck blew up next to the miniature golf course. Extremely fortunate that there weren't any kids there, as there usually are. Thank goodness for cold weather. I head an explosion, saw black smoke, then white smoke. No, another Pope wasn't being elected. Two fire trucks came immediately to tend to the truck, which was on the curb. No ambulances came, so I assume the car wasn't occupied.
