Strength?

How much strength and where does it take to swing a golf club well? I see so many women and juniors appear to struggle with the weight of the club. Is there a minimum strength required to make this series of movements and where does this requirment reside? Arms? Hands/wrists? Torso?

I don't think it's so much strength, it's just getting used to understanding the feeling and motion of how the club needs to be swung. I've seen plenty of female golfers struggle to swing the club, and then they get a little bit of good instruction and/or start to get better as they practice more and they have no problems swinging the club. To me, I don't *believe* they are realy more powerful. I don't believe they will get up on the bench press and move more weight. It's just getting used to it. Sort of like learning how to play guitar. At first you fumble around, but after awhile you start to get the hang of it. Doesn't mean you have more dexterity, IMO. Overall, I think strength in golf is vastly overrated.

yea, i don't buy it. if the club was balanced the same way but weighed 10 lds instead of 100 grams i think it would change alot and require a lot more strength so at some weakness level a 100 gram club could feel like 10 lbs to them.

Yes. That's why their clubs are lighter.

Beginners and ladies usually use the arms to move the club to 'hit' the ball. Using this method one can definitely 'feel' the weight of the club and consequently weaker individuals may struggle with the weight, however small.

After a while, with lessons, they learn to use their body or core to move the club. Using the body, club weight becomes incidental and therefore the appearance of struggling goes away.

Is core strength required to turn fully enough before the weight of the clubhead comes out?
