Strong grip=long ball

What is it about a strong grip that lets guys hit the ball further? I know not all long ball hitters have a strong grip but I would say a really high percentage of guys who hit it a mile have strong grips. Just off the top of my head I think of Bubba Watson, John Daly, J.B. Holmes,Brett Wetterich and Zach Johnson, well maybe not Zach.

I see that relationship too.

IMO, they can really rip with the #4 accumulator (body pivot) against the #4 pressure point (body/left arm connection) and keep #3 acc at a minimum. Weaker grips need more sequencing. Works for Tiger though:)

nope

I think Brian explained things well on a previous post.

"Why do strong grips seem to be what long hitters are using?

The HARDER you load the shaft, the more the face opens.

The HARDER you pull with your pivot, the harder it is to square up the face.

The MORE IN THE FINGERS you grip it, the more wrist cock you can get, but the harder it is to square up the face."

Thanks Brian!

Cope, still waiting for YOUR answer...

Why would using less #3 be more powerful?

How is a strong grip related to having less #3?

Thanks Doubled!

Cope, It's not that less #3 is more powerful. It's not. The perfect blend would be ideal, but a lot of guys favor one or the other and play for it.

GOOD PLAYING strong grippers tend to pour on the pivot while minimizing forearm rotation. If they didn't, they would be playing in the left rough all day with Hillary Clinton.

Have a look at the plane angles.

With a greater #3 angle, rotation of the left arm creates more clubhead travel with less clubface travel. Face moves far with less rotation of face angle.

Zero out #3 and any left arm rotation becomes face closing and no clubhead travel.

I think strong grips tend toward lower hands and bigger #3 angles.

BTW I do agree that bombers load #4 sharply, but I don't think most of them drag the arms down from that point. I see them releasing #4 and moving their hands down their chests and away from their right shoulders.

I also don't believe bombers slow down their pivots to let their clubfaces catch up.
