Do any teachers find a difference in the the development on the road to being a great golfer? A pro told me that since a gifted athlete finds every athletic thing easy to pick up, that they have a greater chance of getting dicouraged and choose to do something else . A average person who has had to work hard to get good at anything, that they will be more likely to become great, because they are willing to grind it out.

Gifted athletes trump hard working average guys 100% of the time. A harsh reality felt by many. If someone gets discouraged, it was the wrong game for them. Do hardworking underachievers make it? Sure, and are great stories, even films. All pros fall into the gifted area - and that was a long shot. One percent of high school athletes get a scholarship to college. One, I thought one percent got to the pros. It's tough out there.

I wish it were so Mathew. But the reality is there is so few that "make it". It isnt just about having a golf swing good enough to make it. You need to factor in one's mental strength/ability, shortgame etc, etc.. Then of course, life gets in the way, how does one assure themselves of having a stable enough income and at the same time have time to practise nearly everyday and play tournaments on weekends (factoring in travel/accomodation/living expenses each weekend). Unless you have a reliable sponsor or you took the game up young enough to go through the education route it is gonna be pretty tough. Of course there are the exceptions who sleep in there car and drive from place to place on minitours.

Bull - anyone with the correct instruction can become pro unless of some physical problem....
I have seen the scores some PGA Pros notch up in competition at Walton Heath . Some of these 4 Hc or better players :Dnotch up 90+ scores . On this basis I make you right.
