Brian and others,
I would love an analysis of Freddy's swing. WHy is he such a good ball striker? Why is he so long? What does he do well? What should people try and copy and/or avoid?

I occasionally swing like him with good results but tend to lose it rather quickly. Based on some things I have learned here I have started to understand what he is doing, in particular how he lifts his arms and then turns. Played like this today and hit it good. Reaay helps my tempo too. As such, I would really like to better understand his swing better.

Can't you pick someone else? Fred's head stays too still.

O.K. to start the discussion engine I put this video in for discussion:

the blue line is the turned shoulder plane,
the red one the ellbow plane
(both approx. because the camera angle is not the best)

short analysis:
Freddy keeps the clubhead beautiful outside his hands in the backswing
(looks like he is taking his clubhead to the outside)

Shift 1: very quick to the turned shoulder plane (TSP) in the backswing and above it at the top
Shift 2: from above the TSP down between TSP and Ellbowplane (EB)
Impact: still above the EP !!!

His right ellbow flies 90 degrees
His right heel is lifting quite soon

So please feel free to start the discussion or post videos from face on angle, thx

An interesting comment I heard once from a TV commentator (they do say some things that are interesting once in a while:)) about his swing was that it looks like he crosses the line at the top but the club is actually pointing down the target line but looks across based on his open setup.

I'm impressed with the fancy footwork on the YT video. Great!

But I don't like the blue line as the TSP.

When I draw a line where I think his tsp is, his hands in the downswing go right down it.
