Swing help for a fat guy.

I think that i have been working too much on a centered swing. After watching the anti summit i now feel that my swing needs to be worked on. where should I start? Looks as though I have a slight left pivot.

For those of us who are rather "barrel-chested" (let's call it), letting go of the club with the right hand right about at Impact like baseball players do, works like a charm. Charlie Lau was first ridiculed for his "method", but now just about every batter uses it. Even if you a lean, mean, fightin' machine but you don't like your alignments on video from Impact to follow-through, give this a shot and you'll be shocked at your Hoganesque alignments.

To decide what to work on you need to provide information as to what is CURRENTLY happening when you hit the ball (ball flight/distance/shape) what your strengths and weakness are and what you'd like to improve/achieve.

For all I know you might shoot level par every day :)

James.

I have decided to work on my swing becuase I have always had an across the line closed face problem, causing a drop under the plane. I would like some suggestions on how to arive to the top in a better position. The few times I have gotten there the downswing is open and I hit a moon ball. I am a one or two thing at a time guy. If I think about rotaing the left arm on the backswing I cannot think about closing the face on the downswing. If I jump to far forward I never master the prior change.

Forgot to mention, I filmed the first two with a lob wedge right when i got to the range. The third is after I looked at the video and decided to work on rotating the club more.

I didn't go back through the thread, so this may be redundant.

To my eye, it's like I want to have you take an open stance with your
lower body and have you hit balls from there. This might give you the
feeling of leading with the lower body.

Looks to me like the reason your upper body and arms is out racing
the lower through the downswing is that you never get back in your
pivot. Your left knee moves forward and the weight stays on your left
foot. Compare the footwork here (granted it's old school, but still valid)
http://www.brianmanzella.com/forum/...-right-foot-its-ability-change-your-game.html to your footwork. If you could learn to load into your
right hip socket and pull your left heel off the ground, then you will fall back to
your left foot and the downswing sequence will have a chance.

The Reverse Tumble

I know its a totally different body type, but here are some components to fight the reverse tumble without the flip. Its a good pattern for a "roomy" guy who cant get his arms inward thru impact early enough.

Maintaining width, clubface turned down earlier (to compensate for the opening effect of the shaft), hands higher and forward, right elbow still bent at impact.

Soft, I noticed that it appears my lower body is closed. It also looks as though i almost collapse on the backswing never really loading to my right side, even though at times I use to move off the ball. After watching the anti summit I tried the left heal off the ground at the store with flight scope and I picked up speed thats for sure. I am going to try the right foot flared and work on getting loaded into the right side.

Half glass empty??

Absolutley not.....unless you think David Toms, Tom Watson, Cink, et al have poor backswings. Just an easier way to match it at the bottom.

My advice is dont make an enormous change if you dont have to. You said yourself that changing your backswing has yielded poor results.

Well hit a quick bucket. Had trouble working on the pivot. Decided that the across the line and closed face needed to be fixed.

Going back to the range to continue working.

Brians chipping tip for the new year has created a shot that I used to play along time ago and forgot about it. Thanks brian.

If you "fix" the across the line and closed face and take the same handpath to the ball your problems will be worse or at best stay the same.

If I were to fix those two problems, then move onto fixing the transition were I keep the right side down that would create more room for my arms allowing a more shallow path.

Is this the wrong thinking?
