Swing update - finally found out how to stop my hip slide

Hi everyone,
I've converted to a more "traditional" swing from what I was doing previously. My problem has always been a sliding (towards the target) with my hips. This has been a consistent mistake regardless of which type of swing I was making (i.e. traditional, S&T etc).

I watched a old DVD that I had and it had on it the "one leg/leg back drill" on it. Man did it work wonders for my swing. I finally got the feeling of rotating around my left leg instead of having a big slide.

The video linked here shows me doing normal swings after practicing with the drill for one session. The first swing isn't that great (still some hip slide), but the second swing is pretty good (a LOT less hip slide than previously).

I played one round with the a shortened version as part of my pre shot routine and my ball striking was pretty sweet (well for me at least). I also hit some really nice drives as well.

Unfortunately I am back at university right now (about 800km from my clubs:eek:) so this is probably the last vid for the year! I still have a lot of other things to work on in my swing (constructive criticism welcome!). I'm still a little flippy (I'll be watching Confessions again lol), and my swing (as usual) is a little on the long side)

I'll also post a vid of my swing pre-drill (i.e. lot of hip slide).

Let me know what you think guys,
Golfman

I'd suggest trying to step on your right foot in the BS alot more. Don't worry so much about hip slide, trust me it's not worth it. Cheers.

When you slide you also get the tilt of right shoulder down. That means you can then get to impact with a bent right arm. Why do you want to prevent these things occuring ?

I actually like your "before" move better than your "after" move. Much more dynamic in the "before" video. What was wrong with your ball striking that prompted the swing change? There are a lot of good players who have a more pronounced hip thrust including Sabbatini and Nicklaus in his prime.

I prefer the after swing - the head remains more behind the ball. Both swings look to have good dynamics to me. Thoughts of a high handicapper though so take it with a pinch of salt.

My hip slide was always excessive though. Overall I ended up having my centre's way too far in front of the ball and had to dump all of my lag early just to hit the ball. As you can imagine this made impact inconsistent at the best of times. Additionally, the big slide promoted a big push if my timing was off at all (because the sliding of the hips allowed me to swing more out). The newer swing is giving me better contact and more distance. Addtionally, I haven't had a big push in quite a while....my new directional miss would be a slight pull, probably a result of me overdoing the hip move.

I did actually improve my game a little with this swing....much more consistent in terms of my scoring (consistently better that is). My last 3 rounds were 7 over, 7 over and 8 over. We played off the tee's where my CH was 9, and my buddies noted that my ball striking seemed better than usual....all good things by my account.
