Swivel for everyone?

Is the swivel for everyone? I have a little hook that comes around to visit once every few holes. If I try to swivel more is that going to send it MORE to the left? Also, what are the advantages to the swivel. I was reading a post from Yoda where he has you practice the swivel by just making a fist. I never really understood it until then. The wedding ring up drill makes sense now too. Thanks

plane of swing

The swivel is required to keep the club on plane thru the entire swing. Remember the shaft is parallel to the line or the club end or butt end is pointing to the line through out the whole swing. Unless compensations are employed this will result in a straight shot on the center of the clubface. Most slices for example finish the butt end of the club instead of finishing back towards the line finish with ith it very left of the line and that results in a slice of the ball. If your trying for a fade or a draw this you can control the swivel to vary your ball flights. Changing alignments make this process easier.

WEDDING RING UP ? EXPLAIN PLEASE? BACK OR PALM OF LEFT HAND? WHAT IF YOU DON'T HAVE A WEDDING RING, DOES THAT CHANGE ANTHING? :p

Ya, you get more opportunity to practice :D

You start with a grip where the wrists are vertical....i.e. check that left wrist matches the clubface...

Then.....through Impact....FULL (as in, as much as you can) roll with a flat or arched left wrist (you did read that right, BTW).

Thought it was weird until it worked.....first time it worked I hit it about 330 dead straight.....

Haven't hooked it yet either (which surprises me...cause I thought this would be hook prone....I don't like to miss left, like a lot of people).

Still experimenting but my eyes are definitely open anyway.

I seem to be having trouble with the sequencing of this. When I thing roll or swivel, I let it happen too soon, my right shoulder comes out rather than down, and it's a pull/pull-hook. When I don't think roll, I can get my right shoulder down, but I'll hit a straight or push-fade. Any tips on getting the sequencing down?

I'm sure Brian would be able to respond 1000% better than me....

Are you sure your right shoulder is coming out? (OTT) Maybe you just don't have enough lag (?).

......left shoulder up + full roll works for me.

You need some lag.

Dunno man.

I haven't video taped my swing in a long while, but since I'm not really having much trouble with distance, so I guess I can assume lag isn't the issue. I'm just having trouble timing the swivel as to not come over the top and pull it or hook it. It's like tilting the axis to get that right shoulder going down then getting into that finish swivel is too much for my tiny brain to handle when I'm coming down into the ball. It seems to be one or the other.

It's killing me, because even when I get that right shoulder down nicely, I come into the ball with this angled hinge/mini-chicken wing flaring left elbow thing and can't seem to stop doing it...or stop doing that and start doing it properly without hitting the ball left.

The open palm of your left hand would be considered to be on plane in your backswing.

The back of your left hand, with an open palm, would likewise be considered to be on plane in your follow through.

Think, palm angled down on the backswing and palm angled up on the follow through.

I'm just wondering if there should be more uncocking earlier in the downswing to help in the aligning and sequencing of the release?

I've been practicing my full release and it definitely make my swing feel more dynamic with less work. I feel as if the club drags me into my finish, and my swoosh is alot louder.
