Taking a Divot???

I've been working a lot lately on taking a slight divot after impact.
Focusing on lag, hands leading at impact, hitting down on the ball, etc...

No matter what I do I can't take that divot.

I've had a problem with early release of the hands prior to impact, where I would take a divot B4 the ball, but that is getting much better with everything mentioned above.

When I hit good shots, I seem to get a nice crisp sound at impact, good ball flight etc... but no divot.

Am I focusing to much on taking a divot? Is there anything wrong with not taking a divot?

Thanks in advance

I say take big divots..man sized divots. I like to see divots on anything 4 iron or below (I like to see on all, but it takes some clubhead speed to get a good one with a 3 iron etc). Look at the clubhead. Picture hitting it the way it was designed to be hit. Let the LEADING edge dig in. To do this, it takes some clubshaft forward lean. I sometimes picture trying to hit the ball with the top line of the clubhead. I can sum all this up by just saying go watch Brian on his video or pitch segment here or Ben Doyle on his video. Watch and listen. Thump after thump after thump. I say emphatically, YES take a divot. Have someone help you pull the club out of the ground, that kind of divot (you will never get there, but good image) and just watch that ball compress and fly. As long as you keep a bent right wrist, ie clubshaft lean, you will hit the ball first. Start without a ball and just dig the leading edge in thump thump, then move to chipping thump, then pitching thump, then punching thump, the full swing...you will never be happier with your ball striking.
