The bottom pic looks like an extreme version of Brian's logo. I get into this position from time to time when hitting balls out of divots. Brian could you confirm that this is OK? thanks.

Sure...It is fine...the DIVOT slows down the clubhead to the extent that this position happens...if you swing this good...

Horror of horrors, the bottom picture looks to me like:

1939. Snead needed only a par on the 72nd hole to win the (US)Open. Not knowing where he stood, he played aggressively, and limped home with a triple-bogey 8. [xx(]

But, redan, I have one of Mark Calcavecia in nearly the same position, STIFFING it on 18 to win the OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP!

As I recall, Snead didn't really hit a BAD shot on the hole, he just hit [8]

do you have one of calc toping it at the ryder cup? must have been a cupped wrist that was the culprit. :)

Wrong!

This picture was taken from Natural Golf (truly) by Sam Snead (Edited by Tom Shehan), A.S. Barnes & Co, NY, 1953.

The accompanying photo caption says:
This is a photo taken during the course of the match between Ryder Cup Team and Bobby Jone's challengers played in Detroit in 1941...My comment (SS) on the picture would be to take notice of the position of the head and the way the arms are extended with the clubface still open. Their position means that the ball had to be gotten (sic) into the air as quickly as possible with the greatest amount of loft because of the culvert and the high ground. in front.

Redan, don't be so quick to think ill of the great and dead.

Brian, golfingrandy here. When I first saw this thread I saw it as a good opportunity for you to explain some items about a Flat Left Wrist at the top. I was going to nudge you in that direction but did not. Sorry. Then came along this post:

http://d4358519.s74.snitz.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=168

Though not an Imperative, there are many who believe that one cannot attain a Flat Left Wrist at the top (Impact conditions at top which means you have to do nada/nothing with the hands to impact) with a strong grip. Sam's photo that has been posted proves this to be false.

All that one needs to adjust is the plane of the arms (Higher). Bye cupped at the top.

Brian, I'll leave you to answer the questions from here. LOL!

hey "dude" when you write "one just needs to adjust the plane of the arms higher" this would be accomplished with more extensor action so the arms go more up instead of across your body on backswing much like sergio. does that sound right thats what ive been working on lately so i dont cup my wrists and ive been puring i. also it seems to help me to multiply instead of add like doyle told me

Sounds like you are well on your way. Nice job and congrats. SOmething else that may be of interest is where the butt of the club is pointing at this location. Now one may say that this is his top, one may say he has already began startdown but it really does not matter. If you drew a line on the ground as far both ways on the horizon as the eye can see, good ol' Sam is already abiding by the Laws of on plane and parallels. Each inch he moves those hands he will continue to point at the line and he will be making those little circles that a true swinger makes.

Anyway. Almost got carried away.[:p][:I] Sorry Brian. It's your stage and audience.

Talk away golfingrandy. This is what we members want on this site, not negativity. I'm confident BM agrees.:D
