My 5 year old son, has been playing since 4 and started taking an interest in Golf now he can hit the ball high and straight , He just wants to go the local pitch and putt course all the time with me, which is 5 minutes from my home.. Which Is great as I get away from the wife with the Kid so she's happy.

Whilst I don't want to push him in any way I want him to learn the CORRECT way... He just loves hitting the ball.

He's a good little Flipper already but when he times the flip and catches the ball sure can hit it...

He won a local kiddies comp at the range and I hope to enter him in the "Wee wonders" Competition next year which is a big event in the UK as they get to play at ST Andrews in the Finals... :)

Iam watching him swing and and time the Flip with Style and have to bite my Tongue and stop saying "Flat Left Wrist", "hit Down" etc etc... Just to let him enjoy..

Should I just leave him to enjoy.. or is there any drills kids can practice which is good practice for the future... And with the TGM / Manzella Matrix method in mind..

i.e Confessions of a Kiddie Flipper!!

I really fancy his chances next year in this 5-6 year old competition and not many dads can say their kid played at ST andrews at 5 years old..

I never made a Pro Golfer but I'd love my Son to!! :)

My uneducated opinion is that kids learn by imitation. As long as you are setting a good example, your son will watch and learn. My four year old switched from a cross-handed grip to a normal grip on his own and now tells me he "knows" how to golf because he "watched them do it on tv."

For a while, he also had this strange habit of wiggling his butt at address. When I asked him why he replied "That's what YOU do, Dad." Can I tell you how self-conscious that has made me on the tee box?

Ha!! Good One!!

My son will probably blame his Flipping on me!!

"But I watched you Flip daddy" ;-(

Haha....that's neat.

This really doesn't have much to do with anything, but yesterday when I was practicing I saw a left handed younger child hitting balls on the range and he was just crushing it.

I had my video camera with me, so I taped him hitting a few shots, and no word of a lie, this kid has the most perfect downswing I have ever seen, lower body works perfectly, left wrist is dead flat at impact and beyond, and he was just pounding these little draws about 145 to 150 yards.

Made me feel a little stupid that this game is practically my life and I can't get into the same positions as a seven year old! :)

I've taken my 6 year old son to the local par 3 course since he was 2 so for a 6 year old he's pretty good but he won't let me say a freak'in word of advice. The second I start to say something he rolls his eyes like here we go again. He still has a cross handed grip and when he does try a regular grip he'll usually hit a bad shot and then say "see dad it doesn't work". Maybe if I took him to somebody else he would listen but then again I don't want to push him because I'm afraid he'll lose interest. It's tuff to raise kids with sports because you want them to succeed but then again you don't want to push. My 3 old boy already adopted the correct grip so at least we've got that hurdle out of the way. I actually have my oldest son's first birdie ball sitting beside my computer, my hole in one balls have NOTHING on that birdie ball:)

BTW sgamer..........what does your son do when he goes to a normal grip? Flips it? Maybe he needs to learn how to full roll?

Kids

Unlike Adult, Kids will not over analyze the swing, therefore they will not fall into the trap of copying someone’s swing rather then trying to generate more force within their swing.
I never bother much with my son’s swing, but the way I program his little computer, is to get him on the putting green, getting him to send the ball right next to my feet for those miss putt with one hands…or sometime two in various distance.
Try to get him to work on the lag pressure as a game

Also try to get him to send the ball to different direction with a fix stance (aiming the Plane line)

As well as relating the clubface as a table tennis bat, and get him to treat the golfball as a Ping Pong when they chip….(You will be amaze how smart they can be, and how quickly they will understand what is on-plane hinge action)

Flat left wrist is pretty much of a result of a bunch of preparation work, I had saw a lot of people trying hard to do MAKE UP THE SHAPE, they end up totally ignore the physics of the swing,

As a result

Zero Lag loading
Or just assemble it and never actually Load

as they are trying to perform a shape rather then getting the force to produce a shape.

If only I could do this!!

Here's that video of Sam...sorry for the poor quality but my camera is a little screwed up.
