Tempo from the Top

I am really stuggling with my tempo. I do not feel smooth at all from the top. Any ideas to help with the transition? Thanks.

I dont know what everyone else is going to tell you, but when I start to have this problem. I do one thing, as soon as I feel I have reached the top of my swing, I pause...... Make it feel like forever, trust me its not.
Then fire nice and smooth.;)

I have tried to pause at the top, but on the way down I still have a real hard time trying not to kill it. I guess my question is how do you get your mind and body to not want to kill the ball?

one of tigers favourite drills id to tee up 3 balls, get your driver, and try to hit the first one 100 yards, and it will go about 160. try to hit the second ball 150 yards, and it will go about 210. then try to hit an 80% swing on the third ball, and see the ball fly straight and almost your normal distance

I like...

heres what I do when everything is going south on the way down...

still pause at the top, then on the way down, I want (what FEELS like) 60% power. you will be suprised to see it fly, just about as far as your normal power... your body will be in sync.

what happens to me when I start getting way too fast on the way down with my driver is a low duck hook... and I am a fader... thats a clear sign something is wrong... what is happening to your ball flight?

one of the things Tony Jacklin used to say was, when he was at a major, and stairing at the 18th fairway with the driver in hand, all he wanted to do, was make a "7 iron swing.";)

well when i get nasty pull hooks that start well left, i know im over excelerating the club.

i usually play like a little cut as well, or a little draw. so when it goes that violently off line i know somwthings up

-I LIKE THAT!!!!!

PS another idea I like is from Annika Sorenstam's book. She says she makes the same swing with every club. I think if a hacker (like myself) can really do this it would make a HUGE difference in their game.

bingo.

I remember the first time this started happening to me, I was about... 17 years old... my dad is watching one duck hook after another... and isn't saying a word to me. finally out of pure frustration, I look back at him, and say "dad what am I doing..." he goes "Just slow that club down, your swinging out of your shoes" sure enough... slowed that driver down to what felt like spreading butter on bread, and creamed the sucker 280 yards with a slight fade;)
I looked back at him, and he just smiled and said, thats more like you.
good old pops...

You have to remember to "swing within yourself" if your trying to do more than your body wants you to... you will end up with bad inconsistent golf shots.

In the transition, try to press you left foot into the ground and simultaneously get more #4 accumulator and more pressure on your right forefinger. That helps me from snatching it from the top.

So far I've found if I'm loose in the arms and use a LCT I'm pretty much OK. Even swinging hard.

(you "load the shaft" more at the top)
