TGM Instructors

Hi all, have had "the book" for a few months now, supplemented it with Ben's tape. I feel like I have the Holy Grail in my hands, but can't figure out how to use it. I'm thinking it might help me to dedicate some time/$$ this winter to working with a TGM instructor.

Anybody have any leads of a good teacher in NYC? Believe me, if I had some serious time/money, I'd jump on a plane and work with BM--I've followed his posts here and elsewhere and would jump at the chance. Barring a lottery win, I'll have to keep my search to NYC and would appreciate it if anyone has the skinny on someone around here I could entrust my swing to.

Thanks for any leads and good golfing.

-Fairway.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. Agree Fan, the book is a mighty task to get through. Have you checked out Ben Doyle's teaching tape?

Not yet. I want to but as I had explained on another thread, I am deaf and am not totally sure of how much I could get from the video since it is not closed captioned. I am hoping that Brian's upcoming video will be closed captioned. Hint Hint Brian! I will probably at some point get Mr Doyle's video and make my wife sit down with me and translate it. That should really make her day. But, as many times as I have had to sit through movies frome the "Lifetime Chanel for Women" she should reciprocate!! :D

Hmmm, that's a bit tricky isin't it? Well, the video's six hours, or something like that. Sounds like you need a "translation team" to tackle the project. I'll happily volunteer to transcribe the first hour of it if you want, just let me know.

LMAO!! That'll keep me in stitches the rest of the day...:D

Huh, another member here watched it and said that he felt I could still get something out of it. I appreciate the offer. I still think I'll make my wife translate for me. HAHAHA "MAKE" my wife do it. I crack myself up.

Fan--sorry to mislead you. I was thinking of Ben's "on-range" teaching video I had which was 6 hrs. His other video is 2 hrs.

No problem. I had scoured Mr Doyle's website several times before. I figured it was a typo or something. Payday is next week, I'll get the video then. My birthday is coming up in October. That could be a good present suggestion for my wife! Has anyone had any experience with Mr. Doyle's facts and illusions mat?

Fan, I really enjoy watching the tape. Ben's teaching style is a mixture of genunie warmth and penetrating insight. He makes the swing and its components look so effortless in application, it belies just how much work goes in to ingraining HK's swing elements. You'll enjoy it, let us know what you think after you've had a chance to check it out.

Fairway: This is the first time I have seen an "on range" video mentioned. how did you come by the six hour tape and does ben sell this longer version? Thanks

Hey Hue, when I first found Ben's site, I called and he answered the phone. After talking for 20 minutes about the swing, how long I'd played, how much we loved the game, etc (totally unexpected btw, he's such a gracious, kindly fellow)I asked him about his video. He mentioned he also rented 6 hr tapes of him giving lessons on the range.

I opted to go this route first, before buying his G.O.L.F. tape. The video was exactly that--6 hrs of Ben giving lessons to a wide range of students--from complete begginers to some players with really polished, gorgeous swings.

At each stage, Ben tailors his teaching to match the level of his student(s): with the begginners, he instructs them using his Facts and Illusions mat--showing them proper foot placement, ball placement, etc.

With the advanced students Ben watches them hit balls, then works with them on the different components of thier swing where applicable.

That's it! My wife had best be preparred to do some boring golf narrating for me!!! :) I am now officially Jonesin' for some of Mr. Doyle's videos!!
