I have been working on all this golf stuff for nearly 3 full years come this July. I have made all kinds of changes from hackerdom, to Never Slice Again, to Never Hook Again, back to Never Slice Again and eventually settled in the middle of the Manzella matrix (towards the fade side) at the end of last season.
I had some amazing increases in distance, ballstriking ability, contact, and consistency. I thought it was a late season fluke, but apparently not.
I have played 4 full rounds of golf so far this year and have shot: 72, 74, 80 and i'll leave the last round out for a minute. The 72 and the 74 were at semi-difficult courses with slopes in the 120 range. Left a lot of shots on the course usually in the short game because i don't get to practice. The 80 was at a 7000+ yard course yesterday with a slope of 138 and i shot a 42 on the front with 6 bogies and a 38 on the back with a couple birdies in there too. Again left a lot of shots out there and should have been a 74 or even 75.
So today i decided to play my "proving grounds" after playing so well yesterday (despite the 80 score). This is a very short "easy" course that is a Par 71 @ 5626 yards and a slope of like 110 i think. I believe the course rating is a 66. Which is misleading in my opinion because the fairways are really narrow and the greens are really small. So sure, you could play the bomb and gouge game there but only if you are pretty accurate because there are LOTS of trees everywhere. Usually when i play bomb and gouge at this "easy course" i'll shoot par or even 1 or 2 over with a few 1 or 2 under rounds thrown in and i usually have to grind it out.
Well today i finally played that course how i knew i could:
10/14 fairways
13/18 greens
30 putts
5 birdies, 1 bogie for my personal best (at this course) of 67. I also left probably 3 or 4 more birdie butts on the table that were makeable and i even lipped out an eagle putt.
None of this could have been possible without Brian's help, some other instructors i've learned from and a whole lot of tinkering. It will be my goal now to try and shoot 62 or 63 at this course before the years out. I think it's very attainable for my ability at this course.
Thank you
