I have been teaching a young lad since he was probably about 6. When he was in my junior clinics and I was teaching the kids a basic pitch shot he was hitting flop shots off a tight lie to a tight pin and stuffing them in there with a us kids pw. He has always been a small kid for his age. He is now 14 and has had a bit of a growth spurt and is about 5ft 6 ish but maybe 110 pounds so he has been a short hitter compared to some of the full grown starting to shave kids that are around 6 ft and 180 pounds.
Anyways to the point of the story... Im at the range today and he is there with his dad and younger brother and I start to chit chat with him. "So hows the game been going kid?' I ask. His response " I played the best round of my life the other day" "What did you shoot" ... "67". It almost brought tears to my eyes.
Thanks to Brian and all his staff and the others on this forum who have help me become a more knowledable teacher and helped me realise that the club doesnt have to follow up some silly line on the take away or stay centered to the chest the top of the backswing.
The father is a fairly solid lad so im hoping the the younge guy will keep growing and put on some muscle so he can hang it out there 260 or more. Last year he was hitting it about 200 and with his growth spurt and some push ups he is hitting in 225.
Thanks again Brian
