A note from Brian Manzella...
I have spent a lot of time attending golf instruction seminars. And I have attended them for well over 20 years.
Every PGA Teaching and Coaching Summit.
Every MIT Better Golf Through Technology Summit.
Every Golfing Machine LLC Summit.
Every AMF Instructor Summit.
And countless others.
As far as I can tell, they are supposed to do three things:
Lately, all it even attempts to do is teach golf instructors other things besides how the golf swing works or how to teach it.
Attendance has dwindled from over a thousand, to less than 400.
Organizations like AMF and The Golfing Machine have put on "Summits" and generally they have been better than the PGA's version, but they really only do the same three things that all Summit/Seminars have ever even attempted to do.
In my fairly educated and experienced opinion, these organizations have really not even tried to "teach teachers to teach better" in any substantial way.
That's why I started my Golf Teacher Excellence Program—the GTE—to try to improve the teaching skills of other teachers.
But, there is still a big hole in all these seminars....
A real Symposium.
Real discussion with real experts, with a totally open floor, with an expert as the moderator, and the goal of coming to a consensus of the sciences and the real-world application of instructors, on the details of how the golf swing actually works.
Until now!
The 1st Annual Brian Manzella Golf Swing Symposium, will be the ANTI-SUMMIT.
The expert SCIENTIFIC panel will consist of:
Aaron Zick, a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University, and President of Zick Technologies, and golf swing physics expert.
Robert Neal, a Ph.D. in Biomechanics from the University of Queensland, Australia, founder of Golf BioDynamics, and an expert in 3D golf swing analysis.
Paul Wood, Ph.D. in solar physics and applied mathematics, is a research project engineer at Ping Golf.
The expert REAL WORLD panel will include:
Mike Finney, PGA, Head Professional at Owl Creek CC in Louisville, KY.
Michael Jacobs, PGA, GSED, Head Professional at Rock Hill Golf Club on Long Island, and Director of Instructor of the Explosive Golf School.
Damon Lucas, PGA, Director of Instruction at Lake Presidential Golf Club in Upper Marlboro Maryland.
Kevin Shields, PGA, Director of Instruction at Sewickley Heights, Sewickley, Pennsylvania.
And the MODERATOR will be:
Brian Manzella, PGA, GSED, Director of Instruction of the Brian Manzella Golf Academy at English Turn, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
In this Symposium, we will explore concepts of the golf swing from a scientific and real world perspective.
There will be no "presentations" per se. Just discussion with an intent toward a consensus.
For example: Where should the weight be at impact in the golf swing?
We will explore it from a Physics standpoint with Aaron Zick and Paul Wood, and from a Biomechanics standpoint will Rob Neal. We can explore how golf club design interacts with these standpoints, and field questions, comments and opinions from the floor.
When that topic is complete, everyone in the room will be the smarter for it, and as close as possible to the definitive answer to the question will be ascertained.
This type of program does not happen in the field of golf instruction's study of the golf swing.
Why?
Well you need experts with a science background.
You need golf instruction experts without an methodology agenda, who are knowledgeable enough to ask the scientific panel intelligent, high-level follow-up questions.
You need a audience of golf instruction and golf swing experts who want to attend a program that they can participate in from the opening bell to the fat lady sings.
You need a knowledgeable strong moderator.
We will have all of the above, and we plan to raise the bar forever on what golf swing seminars, summits, and symposiums should be.
And we will all leave the facility more knowledgeable, and the body of information about how the golf swing really works WILL HAVE BEEN ADVANCED.
Where other seminars seek to teach you what the presenters already know, this symposium seeks to uncover things that nobody knows—yet.
The Brian Manzella Golf Swing Symposium will be a one-day event, from 9am-until-5pm, with continental breakfast, lunch, and a snack provided.
The registration fee will be $250.
This is a can't miss, red-letter, best of its kind ever event.
The three expert panelists are the three brightest minds I have encountered in a lifetime of studying and researching the subject.
You will not be disappointed.
Be there!

Once upon a time, the "big" seminar—the semi-annual PGA Teaching & Coaching Summit—did a pretty good job at teaching golf instructors the swing theories of other golf instructors. It has historically done a relatively poor job of teaching golf instructors how to teach better. 2. Teach golf instructors how to teach better.
3. Teach golf instructors other things besides how the golf swing works or how to teach it.
