The Backswing

Hi,

Been a member on this site for 2 days (spent nearly all day on this site today trying to get my game back on track and seeing what my plan is going to be ) and I have learnt so much in 2 days. I have been on so many different websites before sayin to myself RIGHT IM GONA STICK TO THIS WAY OF SWINGING NOW it never happens!! But manzellas way of swinging is different, he hasent actually got A WAY of swinging but gives you lots of different options of how to take the club back if you get what I mean and lots of different options on how to release so then you can pick the best options which fit your game and swing and build them into your game.

Anyway, in the backswing after being on this site for 2 days I ahve come up with what I need to work on, 1/ a neatral grip 2/ the twistaway (although I dont slice the ball I think this is a great repeatable action and it can be a way of swinging for life, not much can go wrong with this move ) and I am hoping these 2 things will let my downswing happen naturally, if not ive always got options in my downswing such as the roll over move or the exstensor action.

In the backswing this is what i feel, tell me if im feeling the right things so I know im on the right track.
So, I got a neatral grip now ( I found my neatral grip by holding the club out in of me with my left hand and making sure the club face is parrelel with the left wrist, ive seen brian do this in a video. that is where i got this drill from ).
Then my first move back is the twistaway move, the bending back of the right wrist which moves the club head about 2ft then I start to feel my right elbow get closer to my side and start folding which moves the left arm to the 9 0 clock position with the club at a 90* angle to my left arm from there is just a turn.

I get into a position where my left wrist is real nice and flat ( sometimes slightly bowed which aint nothing bad ) club face is square ( favouring more open and than closed ) and the club seems to favour the laid off position more than the across the line position but mostly its pretty much pointing dead down the target line.

Am I going in the right direction?

Sorry for such a long post :)!

Thanks,
Rick

AH Changed my mind!

I am now going to use the RFT! Why? Because someone told me that the RFT is better for hookers who swing flat and around it helps you swing more "up the wall" and the twistaway action is for people who NEED it, Like slicers and people who struggle with getting the left wrist flat.

Ricky,

Sorry son but the plain truth is that you have no idea in which direction you should be going in your efforts to improve your golf swing. How many changes in direction have you made so far in the few days you have been with us at Stallions Coral?

Coming to a forum and fishing for ideas, changing your mind from one quick fix to the next offered by guys with good intentions but no real idea of what you are about, just will not cut it.

Save time, effort, and heartache and go to a decent Pro who can see what you do, how you are doing it and organise a programme necessary for you to make the improvements you are looking for. Listen to him and do as he says - you will not do it on your own.

There is no other way. You are young, keen and not without talent, it would seem, so do yourself a favour and go about improving your game in an organised and methodical fashion - with good Professional help.

Finally, don't leave the forum, it is a fun place to hang out and you can learn here BUT you need a little more experience than you seem to have right now in order to go it alone.

Sorry for being so blunt but I do mean well.

I think he can improve in here....so long as he works with what he's already doing. (cause he's doing some good things)

Not just random experimenting. (like I got into...lol)

Sorry but average club pros or local pros have no knowledge like brian manzella does!!!! Yes they know when your set up is slightly off or when your shoulders are slightly to open.

But they dont know any moves like brian does, such as twistaway, Right forearm takeaway and so on, they know bug all to be honest with a pga certificate! Anyone can get a qualification for teaching golf !!!

Ricky,

I know what you mean and I feel your frustration but self-analysis at the tender age of 15, and seeking internet advice that fits your perception, is NOT the answer. There are decent Pros around but you must explain to them what you are seeking to achieve and how you are hoping to get there - it is a two way process.

Sure, let Brian be your guide but do be very certain of what it is that he is asking you to do and be faithful to his advice to the exclusion of others - including your own feelings to the contrary.

Still blunt, I know, but still trying to be constructive.
