After the left hip moves left, the arms drop and then the right shoulder goes to work.Is this right?

Jerry, my understanding is the hips moving left help move the right shoulder down, the right shoulder moving to the ball is the next step leading the arms to the ball.

HI Jerry,
That is not quite correct...
The arms don't really drop at all (not on their own)...

From the top

The weight shifts left while the right hip is opening towards the target slightly...the hip don't move straight left, it is a diagonal movement..
This movement is caused by removing weight from the right side to the left (In my case I simply try to raise my right heel while the weight is still on it. Now there is no way I can raise the heel, but the intent of the action automatically moves the weight to the left side. This is helped by right knee bend).

Now because the right knee has bent, the right side has shortened (and the left side will be lengthening because the left leg is extending), the hips are now tilted, with the right hip being lower then the left, with the lower spine now being tilted towards the target..
Because your are maintaining your swing center (between your shoulder blades at the top) wiht a tilted spine, the left shoulder must raise and the right shoulder must drop, and your arms are carried down by that drop, whilst maintaining roughly the same relationship they had with your shoulder at the top.

So it is the tilting of the spine and shortening of the right side which carries the arms downwards and the right shoulder into the correct position...

From there you simply make sure you finish your pivot to the finish and the arms will automatically be where they are supposed to be...

You can actaually make a really simple swing just by compressing your lower LEFT back muscles for the backswing and then compressing your lower RIGHT back muscles for the forward swing...

why is it then that you hear so much of the right shoulder going downplane? wouldn't that be a decent first move or feeling to have? someone here said that's his initial first thought, rather than thinking of the hips. i have a problem in sliding---not getting my hips to turn. any thoughts on what would work best?
